I've just been lurking lately, been in a cruddy mood, bad attitude, that kind of thing. Besides being busy with work for a change. Had Icelandics in the incubator and somehow 3 rolled out of their spot in the carton and cracked 3 others, so I went from 10 viable to only 4 hatching. Put me in a crappy depressed mood, and didn't want to infect anyone else. Moved the 5 week old juvies out to the porch in a brooder with a heat lamp, and in 3 days they have managed to smother 5.
I've opened it up now so they can come and go as they please since it's supposed to be warmer.
Lots of pretty eggs, and good looking chicks you guys have there.
Mahonri, your Icelandics look like they are doing very well.
I don't remember who had the hen with the hurt leg, but... check it very thoroughly for mites. I just had a naked neck that was doing the same thing, I thought it had a hurt leg, then another in the same coop started limping, turns out they have mites again.
I'm sorry to hear about all the losses to predators, again, I understand way too well the feeling. My heart goes out to you.
Did anyone see the news story last night about feral chickens south of I-10? They had lots of video of them running around and flying over walls, etc. Pretty funny.
Gallo, when you figure out how leash train your hens, let me know.
Turkeybreeder, I'm sorry to hear you are having health issues, and your family as well. My prayers go out for you.
Pastrymama, yes, if you wind up with turkey eggs I can incubate them for you. I was thinking of getting some myself to raise. Still on the fence about it.
Does anyone have a link to ideas for a nesting box setup for broody hens? I have several broodies and might as well let them do the hatching and raising themselves. Thanks
