Sorry to prove you wrong, but my I feed my dog averagely. When I take it out in the woods, sometimes it kills an animal and ALWAYS wants to eat it. From, snake, to opossum, raccoon, armadillo, rabbit, mice, everything!
You didn't prove me wrong, nor prove a thing by saying something about ONE dog. Note: I said "most" dogs kill indiscriminately and do not eat their kills. One dog is not "most" dogs. If you have read any amount of time in this section, there are hundreds, maybe thousands of threads/posts regarding dogs slaughtering flocks and not eating one single bite of one single bird. It's a very common theme here.

I was just saying because I am a bullied breed advocate. Now sthu and quite trying to start fights.

Yeah... It's been many years, but my well fed house and yard dogs would find, say, a wild bunny nest every so often... Quickly ate them alive as though they were the most amazing delicacy. No torture or games... Just food.

Rabbits stay clear of my yard to this day.

Haha, its the same way here with snakes. Dogs prefer raw fed over dry food anyways.

I did not cuss. sthu: shut the heck up

And such a wonderful, respectful example of advocacy to boot.

I was respectful until someone decided to throw some sparks.

"Shut the heck up" is still not an acceptable way to speak to members of BYC. No one was rude to you-they simply did not agree with you. Disagreeing is not "throwing sparks". Good grief. You are new here with less than 20 posts as I write this. Perhaps getting the lay of the land before you tell folks to "shut the heck up" would be advisable.

The only person in this entire thread who was rude was you.

Now, could we get back on track to help the original poster, please?

Regardless of breed, regardless if the dog is someone's "beloved pet". An unapproachable dog that makes me feel unsafe when I step out the door will not be leaving this property under its own power. Where I live, we pretty much know one anothers' dogs, so if my neighbor's dog somehow ends up here I'll call them or haul it home. (been there, done that - and they've done the same for us) It's usually a one time event. If the dog isn't causing trouble, no big deal. But if the dog were to kill my livestock or chickens, my neighbor would fully understand if their dog got shot. Just the same as I'd understand if my dog were to kill their animals. That's the way we live out here. I'm willing to give my neighbor and their dog a chance if it's a one time occurrence. Things happen. Repeat offenders don't get third or fourth chances. (I'll allow a second chance, but that's it.)

As mentioned above - *most* dogs aren't killing for food. They're killing for the sheer joy of the kill. I don't care if a dog is fed well and still eats small animals when it gets the chance. It's killing to kill. Period. There is no need for food. Just the thrill of the hunt. Baby bunny snacks are a bonus.

I don't understand how there are so many post about killing animals.

I had problems with stray cats.. yeah.. 50 of them left abandoned in a van on my neighbours property. I opened a post about it that was closed - I guess my language and emotions were too much... but the solution to the chicken-killing, bird feeder predator, pooping in my garden cats was to basically.. kill them..

But, isn't that illegal were you guys live? How do your neighbours not hear the gun shot? You all live so far in the country?

If I'd shoot the neighbours rottweiler, THREE TIMES, I suppose I'd be in jail by now.. even if it was on MY property. I just don't understand how you manage all this killing.

On another note.. I don't blame the breeds either ;) I have a husky, which everyone told me would eat my chickens.. and she never did, and they free range on my lawn.

There is a little beagle that comes to visit me. Often, on Saturday mornings I am sitting with my coffee an I hear scratching on my door. It is the Beagle that comes to say hi :) He doesn't attack the chickens. I let him in, he plays with my dogs and then goes back home! I am nice and gentle with any animal that doesn't attack me, my family or my animals! I do like Bobbi and haul them home - not the Beagle, he knows the road. Pretty cute, he's been visiting for a year now. My old dog died last winter, I had a husky after her. The Beagle met with the Husky and they are friends too. I wonder if the Beagle really "thinks" of my dogs before he leaves his home to come to mine.
