August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Finally got the large brooder cleaned, soon I move out the 3 week old chicks and clean the inside brooder. Enjoying an AC break and when I stop sweating I return to work. Still no pips. Its early so now worries on that. Eggs for my September hatch are already in the egg turner. Dark Cornish (eBay picked up in person) Blue/Spash/Black Ameracuna (craigslist) Golden Phoenix (got from the eBay guy while I was there, sorry eBay but once I meet them in person I don't have to go through you!) My lone Golden Phoenix female died so I figured I would snag some cheap hatching eggs in person. Ayam Cemani, and Seramas. I have more than 42 so I will do the stack em on the side trick and weed out the infertile ones and the quitters on day 10. I may need to buy a new brooder plate because it only holds 20 chicks and its very possible I end up with 40 successful eggs hatching.
Cannot wait to watch those dark Cornish grow, and see the results of this hatch for you!

2 silver looking turkeys, a flat beaked one.... and 4 Nn. Do far a good hatch with 13 in the brooder and 3 more wet ones in the incubator.... oh and a bunch more pips. Sigh it's a great day!

What do I do for my broody in successive 100 degree days? We have three coming up this week.... I’m thinking of moving her tomorrow to where she can benefit from the big port a cool fan I’m running for the birds during the days. It’s also got a camera there so I can make sure she stays sitting.

I put a waterer within stretching distance of where she sits on the eggs. I have put a few ice cubes in it as well. I try not to move my broody hens too much.
I worry about all of my girls in the heat but so far I haven't lost a broody and it's equally as hot in Georgia as it is in Texas.
@Mixed flock enthusiast set up a nice little fan for hers too if I remember correctly and I think she put a frozen jug in front of it to cool the breeze.

My Delaware and Delaware mix girls seem to lay pink.... I believe they are listed as laying med brown? My original Delaware girls hatched in 2016 so getting older, I got them from privet hatchery. I like their size and those gorgeous big pink eggs in winter.
Yet another reason I want to try Delaware's hahaha I NEED pink eggs. :drool

Argh!!!!

Welcome to all the new hatchers!!! August is going to be an exciting month!

My broody is doing great!!! I think we are on day 4 or 5.... I don’t even remember. I like not being in charge.
It's so wonderful when a broody does all the work!! And then there is the added bonus of not having to brood the chicks!
