Hey all, my aunts one hen, miss thing, seems to be very very sick.
The kast few days we noticed she's been a bit by herself.. kinda fluffed up with her tail down. We cleaned the coop yesterday and last night when we put their ladder and perch back up..she didn't sleep perched with the rest of the ladies. She slept laying down in the nesting box.. she's had a bout of this weird puffy and stand off behavior before but usually in a day or two she's back to normal. So we checked on her this morning. She was still in the nesting box.. she made her way out when we let the ladies out. But she's not looking good.
She is separated now. But my aunt said when she picked her up to separate her she didn't fuss.. she also said her comb is a dark reddish purple. Not normal colored. And her legs seem almost grey.. she also seems to be drooling from the mouth and her eyes don't look good either.

She's separated a d with some water with apple cider vinegar and a cracked egg and mealworms to try to encourage her to eat. But she hasn't touched it. And is standing up hiding under a char we have in the coop. Still puffed up and tail down.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on with her?? I don't know how old she is unfortunately.. my aunt left for work and won't answer my texts now. My one rehabber friend says she thinks it sounds ds like heart failure.. and she probably doesn't have much time left. What wpuls cause heart failure..? Because if it's something everyone else cpuld be affected by.. I would like to tell my aunt and rectify it before anyone else is affected:(

Please help!

Sounds like heart failure or she got into something toxic.
Has she laid recently?
I'd honestly put her down If there's no improvement by tonight.
I don't think she's laid recently.. I checked her bottom to see if she was trying to push anything out and smelled it bc it seemed to have something dry whitish and yellowish stuck to it..but I didn't smell anything putrid.. and I'm thinking it may just be dried urate stuck to her bottom..she's not pushing..
You're the 2nd person to suggest heart failure... :(( I think that may be the case.. she's only 2-3 years old though ..
But her sister passed in a similar way a month or two ago.. they came from the same mother. So maybe it's genetics??

Also I don't think she's gotten into anything toxic recently.. there's nothing toxic laying about back here :(

Is there any farm machinery on the property? Look around and see if there is any oil or antifreeze or anything dripping from anywhere. Sometimes chickens will graze around machinery and get into something toxic that way. Hoping the best for your girl! :hugs

Some breeds are prone to organ failure, unfortunately. it can be exas
She also could have a reproductive issue that's causing her system to back up and strain it. I'm sorry.

No :( no farm equipment back where the chickens and geese are kept:/
I'm going to give her a round of triple c antibiotics tho.. just to be sure.. but I can't seem to find a dosage for a chicken anywhere D:
Do you have any idea how much I shpuld be giving for a hen?
