Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Yes, I have quarantined pearl she is in her own pen and have treated her for lice, mites and wormed her as well. I don't think I will integrate her with the others she seems so defenceless. I will let her free range with the others though. I have no fertile eggs now as I've lost them since the bator never worked

Wise decision . I'm not sure what the diference is between integrating with the flock and being allowed to free range with them though. :idunno

I don't either but my roo Lloyd only socialises with the hens during the day he never roost with them as I box him in so he doesn't crow too early in the morning. Speaking of roosters is there any telltale sign if they are mature enough and ready to mate?

So he will still have access to the Silkie in daylight hours , which is when they breed.
Most roos will be active from 6 months .

don't know how old he is I rescued him from the freeway. And I've only kept chooks for six months

I'm learning as I go he has not tried to mount any of my end and my top hen suki gives him a hiding even the barnevelder pecked him to submission. But he is a lovely boy very docile.

I don't think you need to worry about her not going broody, it's just a matter of when. : ) She's such a pretty colour.

I've been busy with an assignment & missed all info about the approaching storm. I got back from dropping the kids off at school on Friday to find all the chooks lined up under my window sill, absolutely drenched, even though they could have gone into their covered run. I got them fed and was considering blow dries after school pickup. It was still pouring so drove to pick my son up from school for a change (he usually walks) & thank goodness - it ended up being an epic 2 hour drive to get both the kids home from school in the worst of the rain. The buses & trains stopped so also had another long drive to pick up hubby from Zillmere & the chooks missed out on their blow dries - or more specifically, my daughter missed out on giving them blow dries.
They seem to have managed to dry off just fine by themselves & I am now free until the next deadline.

I poked my head outside earlier today & DH was letting my daughter shape the hedges.

I'll have a chance to check the damage tomorrow & time to stop & smell the roses.

There was loads to catch up on & baby kittens, bunnies and a pup!
