Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks I wonder why there are white chicks do you have any explanations

Haven't a clue devinandfeather .... not being a raiser of new baby chicks, I am not in a position to even hazard a guess. Depends on how you hatched them - under a broody, or from your own chickens eggs ( after being covered by a rooster ) or from a clutch you incubated.

Might forever remain a mystery. .... I think I am correct in thinking ( from the post ) that those photographs were from you ??

Cheers .........

Gorgeous! Something high in the lines maybe? Depending on dad of course.

Knew there was something i forgot to reply to! *** with the new chickens dumped over the fence! Never heard of that before its crazy! Suppose i kinda think at least theyre trying to give them a happy life over a pot but come on u cant just chuck ur chooks in with a random flock! Could have just knocked on the door, explained the situation and asked...

Haha if he talks to them and enjoys watching them he so doesnt 'not do chickens'. He likes them way more than he lets on. My hubby really quite dislikes them but he knows i love them so just ignores them if possible really. Think his dislike was originally caused by Rodney attacking everyone including his mother lol.. so fair enough.

Glad it just seems to be scabbing at this stage AB.

Sweet dreams to all

In our early chicken owning days we were so besotted with our chickens that we let them have the run of our property, which is 3/4 of an acre. They did their chicken dances every where, even trying (repeatedly) to get into the house (they already owned under the house). Of coarse where the chickens went so did their poop. Pretty soon we had large divots in the lawn, poo on the veranda, our outdoor table and chairs, and the veranda railing (their perching place of preference) was a mess! The crunch finally came when they really took to the rose bushes! I did read that to protect your rose bushes and rose gardens, some people get fly wire to lay around on the soil surrounding the bushes. It's blends in with the soil, let's water through and most importantly Stops the chooks scratching around the bushes. Unable to find enough for all our bushes, our chooks were soon confined to just a third of the yard, which we reckon is still pretty good going

As to the sand eating, they were really chowing into it but they all seem to have survived ok. Might hold off on giving it to them again tho. They can enjoy the dirt in the big run when they finally move out of the brooder and into the coop

Again, I had a laugh locknest4 .... I can see the mess your chickens originally made of everything. Which, visually is funny - but not so much for you having to clean it all up !!!

As for rose bushes ... my girls love to eat the leaves of them - have denuded and completely killed one poor bush - but the other one near them, has grown too tall ( it is a climber ) for them reach ... Yaaay for the rose bush. But - rose leaves are, apparently, IN.

I was surprised that Mindy didn't pick at the small new ground cover rose today - waaay too interested in digging up dirt to sun / dust bathe I guess. ( thank heaven ).

Wouldn't push the envelope with new trays of white sand. They would get enough of what they think is good, from the ground. They might take to dust / sun bathing in it, if it were spread a little on dirt areas in the garden - if you want to get rid of the white sand at all ? Wouldn't hurt them.

Regards ......

Sorry to hear about your chicks Satay. The snake is probably in the best place though - for its own health.

Some lazy bast$§¥d just threw 2 Isa browns over my fence this morning. So much for biosecurity! I've isolated them and now have to find them a home before tonight. Any suggestions?

The breeder up the road from us has this happen to her often, usually roosters being dumped on her property. She recently put a warning on her face book page, telling the dumpers that she had video surveillance cameras on her property and she will report them to the police and RSPCA with her video evidence. Don't know how that's working for her, but it's an idea. Maybe signs saying property under video surveillance would be a deterant to would be offenders.

To RodneyRooster or devinandfeather ....... or both. ??

Hitting quote on an above post didn't work at all ... and this is only a small reply about my hubby who 'doesn't do chooks'.

I have to agree - he is actually a total softie with animals and birds, but as they are MY chickens, I am supposed to be 150% responsible for them. And he won't have a bar of looking after them ( unless he had to of course - me in hospital or something ghastly ) .... but he has busted his innards, redoing coops, fences, laying concrete for flooring, a new coop, and everything else for the best for my chooks. ...

So he is ( reluctantly to a degree ) very much 'into chickens' .... LOL.

He just won't admit it.

... first thing he does when he comes home from work, is go outside with Miss Ruby and call 'took, took, took' to the girls who ignore him completely, because - - -

he hasn't got any food on offer. Maybe that's what has p'eed him off ??

.... I try to teach about tucker, result is zilch !!

LOL ....

Oh! Just visualising your poor rose bushes! Darn Leaf eating chooks. Mine just thought the soil under the bushes were gr8 for dust bathing. Gotta love them :D

I had to laugh at this too because I've got chooks that sit on my veranda railing and I know how NOT fun it is to hose off all the time lol
