to you tishywoo ... this is a wonderful thread, and much is learned here.

Re : reply / posts etc. .... Every time you come to BYC and this ( or any ) thread - you must sign in. Otherwise there is only one option - which is 'reply' .... once you have signed in with user ID and password, and all options come up - do the following :

Click on the 'quote' as Fancy mentioned ... and when that appears in a new reply box at the bottom of the page, [ and it should do so in a lighter grey area ] - put your cursor beneath all that and begin your reply / comment. As I have done here. I note you have had to resort to a new 'reply' to say 'thanks' to Fancy - even though her comment came up in a reply box for you, which you then submitted.

Like so much else, it is easy once you get the hang of it. Occasionally though, BYC has a few problems with different browsers being used ... but it has behaved itself for the past month or so, so fingers crossed.

Hoping to see you here often ...

Cheers -

Howdy Folks :frow

Real quick cos I am not supposed to be typing and if hubby catches me, I am toast! lol.  Just letting you know that I am OK now and should be back on deck in a week when I can catch up on all the news.  I hope you are all doing OK, I miss you! :hugs

Glad your feeling better Teila. Rest up and see you back soon :)

Welcome! Love barnys.

I'm not an expert on incubating. But parts of my house get quite hot. I put it in a cooler spot on the east side of the house and brisbane can get humid too. People who incubate more than I will be able to tell you better. The temps you mention aren't too high and as your incubator should have a setting temps in the low 30's should not be a problem as they are not hotter than incubation. My incubator also controls the humidity as it has a fan on it to circulate the temp. If the humidity is too high I use less water. There has been times where the hygrometer has read a lower humidity inside the incubator than out. I think fluctuations in temperature are a problem.

Good luck. Keep us posted and we like photos.

Cheers

I have the same thing here with heat and humidity. I set mine to 37.5c and 45% humidity. It very rarely sits at 45% humidity much higher some times but it never seems to effect the hatch.

Speaking of heat hope the qlders are ready for this next round of heat. My temps from today for the next few days supposed to be today 41c tomorrow 40c Sunday 40c Monday 40c Tuesday 38c and Wednesday 38c. Now they are normally not even close to being right my guess is closer to 45c at least til Tuesday.

Some people have had nasty experiences with heat lamps catching fire. A cold brooder makes way more sense in warmer climates and also makes the chicks more robust to the elements. I've used one in the summer here by just using a vileda cloth mop head $10 ,but some people cut up fabric. The theory is that the chicks create body heat and it is trapped in the strands and of course it emulates momma hen above them. :)

These pics aren't mine , but you get the drift.

I need new glasses. I misread the original post.

Yes I have seen people at markets use them. I have seen the cotton type mop. The chicks love it. I think the contact reassures them to.

I really hope it doesn't hit 45 for you, god how awful. If it does, I hope you and your chookies get through it ok. It's actually really pleasant here in Brisbane at the moment, nothing out the ordinary like they predicted. I hope a cool change comes your way soon though.

Gave my girls some tuna in springwater as a treat yesterday. Chickens do not smell good after eating tuna lol, though who does. At least the smell wasn't as bad as having a friendly cat give a big fishy yawn right in your face
