Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thank you all so very much for your well wishes … I’m back and allowed to type; I missed you sooo much :hugs I will spare you all the boring details but in a nutshell, on the Friday had a scare with more chest pains > Emergency > Inpatient > multiple tests, including angiogram > narrowing of artery did not require stent and treatable with medication and lifestyle changes > discharge after 6 days and recovery > going back to work next Thursday. Angiogram was done through both the wrist and then the groin for a further test where they use drugs to put the heart under stress which had to be the scariest 2-3 minutes of my life; I can not explain what that felt like but do not want to experience anything like that again. Right now I feel like I have been dragged through a hedge while doing pin cushion impersonations :lau Who knew bruises could come in quite so many colours  I do have to give hubby a pat on the back here … while obviously not to my usual standards, he did a great job of looking after the girls. He even nursed Dusty through a broken soft shell. Early Tuesday morning he sent me a picture of them mooching in the garden which, after 5 days of not seeing them, had me in tears  Anyways, I am home, I am recovering and life is getting back on track. I have read but not replied to everyone’s posts; my posts are wordy enough and if I replied to 8 pages of posts it would take 8 hours and you would most likely fall asleep after 8 lines :lau Also, not skipping over and saving the best thread til last, I have run out of ovations. Anyways, congrats to those with new bubbies, both chickies and duckies :clap .. love the pictures :love MyHaven I am so very sorry to hear of your loss; I can only imagine what a horrific and scary scene that would have been for you :( :hugs Welcome to BYC and the thread Susan Hampshire :frow Welcome also tishywoo, I am sorry to hear about your hubby and hope that he is doing OK now. Is he in the Prince Charles Hospital? They are the heart and lung specialists and just having got out of there myself, I can not praise them enough for their care; they were awesome! Congrats on your new grandson LuckysMum .. love the gift wrapped chicken!
So glad your home and the problem can be controlled with medication.

Thanks! Sorry to hear about yr health but good that it's being monitored now. My husband was flown to Brisbane (we are in Hervey Bay and there is no cardiologist here) and taken to St Andrews. He is lucky in that he has a TPI Gold card so everything is covered by the Dept of Veterans' affairs. He has a long history of heart attacks and strokes due to a rare blood disorder, but this heart attack was due to scarring in his heart. He is due to get a defibrillator inserted on Monday so I'm going down tomorrow. Thanks again for your kind thoughts.

Could I get some advice?

Hoppy (barnevelder 5 days old) has had wonky leg since hatching. I tried band aid etc as per posts on splayed leg only to find her flat on back struggling and not eating. I removed the band aid and now she's as happy as larry and scurrying around quite fast. Should I persevere?

Tishywoo ....

Firstly, I do hope the defibrillator solves most all of the problems your husband has had - and that he is able to return home asap, recovered and well again.
It is certainly a very scary situation, to have heart and blood related problems to continually contend with. Hopefully that is all behind you both, after the insertion of the de-fib. I am guessing your hubby is on continual medication for his blood disorder ? Best of good wishes to you both.

.................

Secondly - I think you might have answered your own question ...

"I removed the band aid and now she's as happy as larry and scurrying around quite fast. Should I persevere? "

Persevere with her - yes .... let her be, to find her own feet and balance. As long as she remains how she is now, all will probably improve as she grows up. No more band-aids I would suggest. Others more experienced might have some other ideas, if she has a relapse.

Have a 'puzzle' chicken myself at the moment. I keep a watch on her - difficulty walking at times, other times stands straight up, and jogs to where she will be hand fed. Then she sits down again. Apparently a lot of rest helps chickens recover from some kind of injury, which is not apparent to the naked eye, or is ( as suspected with mine ) a normal type arthritic condition. She is 4 yrs old.

Good luck with your new little barny, and I hope she remains a happy 'Hoppy'.

Cheers ........

So glad to hear you are home again Teila ... after a frightening and harrowing experience going through all that 'angio-gram' business.

Just try to take it easy ok ?

Love the image here - I can relate to that !!

sjturner Yeah I tried that no more takers. Though a few friends have taken some home. I have a friend who has taken heaps especially ones that are real fliers, so I have been lucky.

Fizzybelle I think I’ll pass on the three French hens. Thanks. Some of them have been very noisy the friend who has been taking the fliers (phoenix crosses) has also taken the noisy girls. I had to laugh I got up the other morning and saw the bird net and a pet cage next to one of the coops. When I went back inside a bleary eyed husband came out of the bedroom, he’d caught my white silkie at 4:30 sun was just getting up and so was she. He put her in the carport and covered her up.

The other box was for the next offender. Thankfully my friend took her she was one of my granddaughters favourites, so they will still be able to visit her.

Teila Sorry to hear of your ordeal. I glad your home (resting). It’s great they can help you with medication. Love the Dear Santa letter I totally agree.

tishywoo I hope the defibrillator helps, best wishes for Monday. These worries take its toll on everyone.

It'd be good if broodies took summer off at least, too hot to sit on a nest all day.

We started on our yard clean up and of course had five feathered helpers. We broke up some old wooden furniture that was full of hundreds of very large ants, and the girls went nuts. My two large girls ate so many they ended up walking away, they actually felt full. My Annabelle, who I describe as a black hole on legs, felt full. Amazing. The eggs and larvae were the most sort after, though Beatrice my D'Uccle got the queen, I found her by chance. So, a good day to be a chicken in my flock. I also got them all off to bed just before that huge thunderstorm hit. Score two! Oh and even though there were plenty of ants, of course they still squabbled.

We'll need to do some digging tomorrow, so they may have to be locked up for a while if we're to actually get anything done. I also found they tipped over the milk crate covering my raspberries and ate the new leaves again, the little ratbags!

Good morning folks

I am still over my ovation limit, so thank you once again for your kind words

tishywoo Best wishes for your hubby’s procedure on Monday and also for a speedy recovery. Sorry that I am not able to help with Hoppy as I have no experience in that area but agree with Anniebee that scurrying around sounds preferable to struggling on her back, unless she still has serious symptoms which may cause her issues in the future.

Tee hee Anniebee love the ‘puzzle’ chicken reference

Yeah, BYC is not glitch free but for the size and content of the site plus number of posts daily etc, I think they do a great job.

LuckysMum Aaaw, I love your broody bottleneck

Fizzybelle I love the “black hole on legs” reference

I hope you do not mind but I am going to steal that one for Dusty; a perfect description. I could not help myself and had a chuckle that the little munchkins managed to move the milk crate

We received 21mm of rain in what I think was just under a couple of hours. We also got the girls back in the run just before the first of the two storms hit. The clouds threatened hail but we did not get any. They were all in bed by 05:30PM [an hour early] because the darkness was more like it was 8PM.

LuLu is a funny little girl and also a Daddy’s girl; she knows she is hubby’s favourite and she exploits that. While the rest of the flock are mooching around the garden, she can often be found sitting on the deck with her Dad. If she is with the flock she has this knack of being able to ditch the flock and sneak back alone to beg him for a couple of meal worms. She makes a quiet little “toot” which is LuLu for “meal worm please”, knows that she gets two and then wanders back to the flock. I swear you can see the big grin on her face
