Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

K Riggs I have a few chickens pipping and I'm putting my duck eggs into lock down

Its day 23 of incubation and I was told you put ducks in lock down then. Does anyone else put them down that early?

My manual say 3 days before which would be day 24 or 25 depending on if you go by 27 or 28 days. So I'm putting them in lock down on Monday. I can't wait to see yours hatch please keep me updated so I know what to expect!! I still have 10 live embryos as of now.

Congrats on the chicks :love

I have 10 as well. I went on a incubating and rearing site on facebook and they suggested lockdown for a duck a couple of days earlier. The incubator they are in is a bit noisier than the one the chicks are in so I'll wait till they have finished then put the ducks in there for lockdown. So it probably won't be till later tomorrow. At the moment 5 of Fancy's 9 eggs that went into lockdown have hatched :clap and 3 have pipped. I still can't see the other egg properly. Its funny the chicks have pushed the other eggs around but not the one I want to see. It's like they are evading it and its in the middle on the incubator.

I wish I knew if I should put mine into lockdown sooner.. Great I thought I knew what I was doing lol

Oh how frustrating, of course they aren't moving the one you want them to! Do you candle to see if they have internally pipped? I don't understand how you can do that during lockdown if you aren't supposed to open it

Haha do we ever know as much as we wish. I've been second guessing myself all day and half the night. 8 silkies have hatched of the 9 that went into lockdown. Yes that one I couldn't see have finally been moved around. I think later this morning I will put the chicks under a heat lamp and see if that egg has done anything. Then I can put the ducks into lockdown. I'm excited to see what I get.
After all I've read and heard about hatching eggs that have been sent through the post I am surprised to get 8 out of 12 (2 didn't do anything 1 quitter and I'll see about the 4th).
I hope you have that much luck with the ducks K Riggs. At least with both of us hatching from the same batch we'll know if the post made a difference.
Fancy's boys and girls must be doing the right thing, and Fancy's great packaging. Thanks so much Fancy, my grand daughters are coming this morning they are so excited. I hope your feeling better now.

I hope I will get a decent hatch rate. I haven't candled for three days but there is no reason to think they aren't still fine. I will candle as I put them into lockdown I suppose but it's actually pretty hard to see movement now they are so big! Anyone have tips on what to look for when late candling?

So happy you got so many silkies to hatch, good job! I would love more chickens but I am so overwhelmed with eggs already just with 12 lol.

On another note i am going to attempt to candle my goose's eggs and see if there is any hope for them. I heard first year can be low fertility so we will see. I would feel so bad for her if they are no good she is very dedicated.

I await the first ducklings in the edge of my seat. :pop

Glad you had such success , as I said I've had good results with post with all but the last ones I sent to Ben in WA. Nothing like baby animals to bring smiles to children's faces.
This flu is knocking me about and my lack of energy has meant eggs aren't being collected. When I went out to collect yesterday all but the Wyandotte pen were being closely guarded by 1 or more broody hens.
I have some eggs coming from Adelaide so hopefully there will be enough Broodies to do the job for me.

This is my beautiful 8 I have left one egg in the incubator but I don't think it will hatch. They are so tiny. All the grandkids came, but they'll have to wait till next week for cuddles. They are very excited for the ducks now.
