Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I have one left in the incubator. It got moved about a bit when I moved the chicks out. I didn't think it was any good so it spent a bit of time not in humidity. I couldn't bring myself to throw it straight away. Last night I candled it and there was movement, so I left it overnight, but it still hasn't hatched its day 23 and there is still movement in it. I've topped both trays with water again. Should I let it go or maybe open it a bit or it, I'm not sure if all the mucking around has hindered it and it needs help.

21 days is just a marker , I've had an entire batch of silkies hatch on day 18 . If there is still movement there is hope. Refer to the hatching 101 for information on assisted hatching , because it really is just knowing when to intervene , if at all.

Just read the assisted hatching. I've opened it a bit and will leave it alone now. I wasn't sure if it was malpositioned , I'm still not sure but there are still blood vessels so I will leave it alone. So hard not to help. :barnie

Yeah I know it's nerve wracking but you really need to sit on your hands . Opening the incubator and the fluctuating humidity will lessen its odds.

She sneaks in but no i don't do chicken nappies at all. Hubby would think i had really lost it then.

I thought I had lost it myself, just by reading about chook nappies. :lau

Tonights' weather report in Victoria, showed some serious rain heading into Queensland ... so I sure hope it is cool rain - lots of it, and doesn't bring any humidity with it. Good luck.

Cheers -

It's going to be a long hot summer. We went out to the north west coast with 60 navy divers from all over Australia and most, if not all were impressed with the snow at lake Sinclair. Unfortunately I got influenza A and have been in bed since.

Fancy ... I do so hope you get over this rotten flu 'epidemic' we seem to be having ... and very quickly. Take care -

:hugs

The last little chicken didn't make it. I opened it up a little last night at the air pocket to see if I could see the head or beak. I couldn't see it so I put it back. I had another look at 11pm but it wasn't moving anymore. So I took it out of the incubator it was dead. I opened it up and the yolk was absorbed. But it head was still in the middle of the body tucked up. So I'm not sure if it just wasn't strong enough to get out. So probably a good idea that I didn't get it out it would probably have died anyway. I never heard chirping or anything. :hitI did an assist with the last silkies I hatched because it was late and it died the next day anyway. They do say helping doesn't always work.

This is my beautiful 8 I have left one egg in the incubator but I don't think it will hatch. They are so tiny. All the grandkids came, but they'll have to wait till next week for cuddles. They are very excited for the ducks now. View attachment 1147912[/QUOTE

Oh well you tried. Best not to dwell on it , enjoy the little fluffy ones that did make it. :)

K Riggs I haven't looked at mine they are in lock down. I was advised to put them in a bit early maybe that's why. Chicks go early to, maybe it just a guideline.
My little silkies are beautiful and fluffy now and 8 is a good hatch rate, especially from what I've heard about eggs being flown across the country. :)
Fancy you said blue and splash, I thought the blue was a splash too.
