Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

K Riggs I haven't looked at mine they are in lock down. I was advised to put them in a bit early maybe that's why. Chicks go early to, maybe it just a guideline.
My little silkies are beautiful and fluffy now and 8 is a good hatch rate, especially from what I've heard about eggs being flown across the country. :)
Fancy you said blue and splash, I thought the blue was a splash too.
Yes 8 is a good number for shipped eggs. BBS breeding can result in any of the 3 colours
Blue, black or splash.

Thanks for that info. Now to wait and see how many roos I get. haha always something exciting with chickens. Very addictive, people who thinks chicken just lay eggs don't take the time or don't have any to see the personalities and quirks our feathered friends have. I love my girls they are funny, naughty and downright cheeky sometimes and I wouldn't be without them.
Does anyone have call ducks, a friend said they are little ducks and she wanted some. But I have no idea where to get them from or what they are like.

Call ducks are soooo cute. All I know about them is that they are really really loud.

I just did some research on them. They were bred to be noisy to call in the wild ducks. Haha not good in my back yard. My friend has few acres so they would be fine there, she has chooks, ducks, turkeys and the kangaroos, horses. I'm so jealous. I'll just keep buying lotto. At least we have the old 1/4 acre and that's big enough for our girls and some quiet ducks.
The only worry is I was going to keep the ducks under our mango tree. I read the poo is high in nitrogen, I'm wondering if that will be too much for the tree.

Yes I have 1.5 acres and wouldn't consider call ducks.

That's why i wanted Cayuga's, and the not flying is nice. You know I hadn't even considered the nitrogen around my own fruit trees but since ducks are commonly kept in large quantities in orchards you'd think OK it must be fine?? My two that pipped internally have pipped externally now and are rocking like crazy when I play YouTube of peeping ducklings.. Exciting. I'll set up the brooder tonight.

Wow mine haven't pipped at all yet. I hope mine are alright. What temp is your incubator set on. What worried me is my run is only under the mango tree. Its quite big but is will probably be roots all under the soil there.

My bator has been at 37.7 degrees now at 37.2 as per the manual.

Yes actually my three ducks have already exposed the roots of my apple tree in a few spots from digging.

Did you calibrate the temp before you used it? My last incy was running 3 degrees lower than it was reading. I bought these tree surrounds from a clearance sale but I've seen them at Bunnings. They work very well at protecting the roots of my trees.
