Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

@ChookieG and @Poultry mum one had pip that I didn't know about,
Happens ....sometimes they pip on the underside especially if it's malpositioned

and I accidentally caught my fingernail on it, and pulled of a peace of shell about the size of my finger tip. Should I do something? How much of a problem is this?
Don't panic all good so long as there's no blood - i.e. You didn't penetrate the membrane it's ok 🙂

Yes, this one was another pip on the wrong end.

Thats a relief! the membrane did get very slightly torn, but there was no blood, and it seems happy enough.
The one that piped before I woke up has now started to unzip!

Is it ok to take them out briefly to check for cheeping? I can't really tell well they are in there, but I don't want to make them get shrink-wrapped. Also, I'm not quite sure when one of them piped, is it better to be slightly to late, or slightly to early?
Yes you can take them out for a few minutes it’s not going to hurt them… just keep an eye on them…

I'm an idiot. Our two dogs had not shown any interest in the chicks in the incubator whatsoever, so I stupidly thought it would be ok to leave them in the same room together.
The whole incubator got knocked on to the floor, with chicks and eggs everywhere. They were all very cold, but amazingly all still alive, although weak. They are now back in the incubator, and seem to be doing a lot better now that they are warm again.
Is there anything that I should be aware of after this? Apart from just hoping for the best, that is.
There's no need to tell me how stupid it was to leave them to together, as I'm fully aware what an idiot I am, and there's no one to blame except me.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Shit happens. But remember for next time :hugs

Put the hatched chicks into the brooder… make sure it’s warmed up… with a Luke warm ear bud check the hatching chicks and make sure they haven’t shrink wrapped if so you may need to SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY start an assisted hatch… it’s a bugger your so far away I would of been over there in an instant to help and assess lol 😂

I don't have a brooder, as I've got a a few broody hens in the moment, and I was going to give the chicks to one of them. Is it ok to just leave them in the incubator over night?
At this point, there's 5 chicks, and three eggs to go. 2 of which have piped, but don't look ready to hatch yet. I have already assisted one which had got shrink wrapped after the incident.
Thank you for helping, even if you can't come here!

All good and yes over night should be ok I’ve never done that myself tbh not unless they decided to hatch while I’m alseep lol and their peeping when they come out of the egg normally wakes me up anyway and I pull them out and pop them in my “chick tank” lol 😂 just keep a close eye on the remaining eggs if your unsure if they are ok or not put them near your ear you will either hear them peeping softly or tapping the egg as they slowly work their magic.. if you can’t hear anything gently tap the egg while holding it to ear you should hear them tap back..
