Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Finally got Houdan eggs. The breeder only had eight so filled the dozen with auracana eggs. Let them rest for a day after they were shipped and set them this morning. Half an hour later I hear a bang and discover the lid of my incubator slipped off and knocked out three of my precious Houdan eggs. :'( They are cracked right at the air bubble. I put clear nail polish on the cracks but obviously very little hope for them :( so now I've basically spent fifty dollars for five eggs. The air cells didn't look right to start with, some very big, some just, messy looking.
I don't know what's going on with the incubator either. It's reading sixty three percent humidity but it's only been on for a day and is set for forty five percent. The room humidity is thirty.
Looks like I'm in for a month of worry with no babies at the end :(
The test run went so well and now that I'm hatching some that I want to keep..

Bugger Pinky. It always seems to happen with eggs that you are so excited to get that something happens. Like my wellie eggs last year. Go with the theory I do . Put them in and hope for the best. If you get 2 out bargain and more fantastic. Did you rest your eggs for 24hours before incubating? Some times that lets the air cells settle. Always try to make sure all your pads etc are dry before resetting your bator. Got more pictures of your test run chicks? What was your hatch rate like?

Well here are my new babies! (or should I say teens

)

Three of the four have tail feathers missing as well as some chest and beard feathers but they were in a mixed pen with RIRx, Anconas and Guinea Fowl so I am optimistic it was some of those doing the feather plucking and not them pecking at each other and they will all feather back up nicely.

We ended up with two pale ones and two darker. Their ages range from 9-11 weeks. Here are photos of three of the four, the littlest one wouldnt get its head out of the other feed dish lol In fact they are all rather hungry this morning, they have not stopped eating since I let them out.

The one standing up in the third photo (the only one still with a tail) is I think the best of the bunch.

Oh and just so they don't peck at the bald spots what is that spray stuff called again you put on it and do you just get it at a feed store?

Wow, was just reading about faverolles. They're pretty special! No wonder you guys want them so much! Wikipedia says that they're extremely docile, quiet rooster, good layer.. Ticks all the boxes :) Not to mention beautiful :) geez, the French have made some beautiful birds :)
