Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Just popping in to say hello. I live in Western Australia near a small town called Harvey. I had 3 chooks but sadly now only 1 so am looking to expand my flock a bit which is how I can across this site. We are enjoying some warmer weather down here after a very wet winter which saw the local dam overflow for the first time ever. That's what passes for excitement down here!
There are a few breeders down that way, should be able to get you most breeds. CHookloop springs to mind down Yarloop way, they have a website. I have never bought from there though so I can't pass judgement on stock or service.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi everyone,

I have my last little duckling in the brooder box now. She is so much smaller than the others! The first three keep kicking her out from under the heat lamp and every five minutes I reach in and put her back in their group. DOes anyone know if they are likely to accept her of is her lateness going to cause problems?

Anyhoo, here is a pic of my lil babies!
Very cool, I would love a duckling or three....but not too keen on having full grown ducks hahahaha

Welcome Aussie!

Congrats on the new arrivals Kimbo :) very cute.

Can I admit to getting rather frustrated. I have today not one but three chickens who seem to have taken up residence yet again in the nesting box. This is getting beyond a joke. I don't remember when we last went a week without a broodie. These breeds may be cute and friendly but I'm really starting to question how practical they are.

Maybe your nesting area is so lovely they can't help but go broody :). Seriously now though its a bummer when they are broody and you don't want them to be.

Fancy Love the photos.  .. ... ....  I have to get out and take more

Satay .. ... I adore my SamSam as long as he doesnt help dig up the garden or help take clothes off the line or help "collect" the eggs (secretly steals them and eats them)

he is great protector and friend to the boys.

Apps Your in the Shoalhaven ? area....  I have family in the Bendalong area

Thor does that as well. One of my wellies will lay in a different spot each day. If i don't find it quick enough thor has egg for breakfast.. Little beggar :)

Hi guys, I'm after some advice again.

i bought a Janoel Incubator off ebay, before reading that most people say they are crap :S

Anyways, I got some eggs that are already at day 17 and put them in my incubator, but i can't get the humidity up!!!

I have put in shallow containers with water to increase the amount of water surface but it still won't go up. I am using the Janoel 24 egg incubator & a ReptaHydro Hydrometer. I have put the listed amount of water in tank 1 and 2. I have the little ventilation hole closed. It is sitting at 37.5 deg and 45% humidity. It is now day 18 and I cant raise the humidity like i need to.

PLEASE HELP!!!

I would not add anymore water. Those incubators are know for being not good at temp and humidity. If your humidity is too high the chicks will drown. I fyou have facebook. Join the group called incuabtion station. THere will be people on there that have the same incuabtor i am sure and tell you step by step what they did.

Maybe a 5 just, Satay. I think everyone overstates their colour because they haven't done the comparison with the chart. Chookpatch actually got an egg chart, so I would be interested to see what she thinks hers are, because the WA ones were about the same or marginally better than Chooks.
oops yes it was chookpatch that gave me the chart too i forgot :)

Pinky. I love your marans rooster. Good choice i think. Looking at that picture though I realize i really need to get out more as i though wow cool rooster omg look how green her grass is lol. I have grass envy mine is still crunchy brown and dust ridden. Worst i have seen it in agers .

I feel your pain lol. We have a light Sussex breeder nearby and we got our faverolles in Sydney so quite drivable. . Sooooo tempting lol

I even spent the morning trying to work out the maximum hens I'm allowed in suburbia and trying to convince myself that it not being mentioned means unlimited lol.

My original plan was to wait till next spring then hatch some but da mn waiting is hard!! Lol

lol that's my theory to appps. Don't ask and you don't have to know.
