D'uccles really do punch above their weight.

The little yolk is a Silkie, the middle one is a D'uccle and the one on the right is a Marans.

Agreed! My Bea lays amazing eggs for a bird her size, and like yours, hers are larger than my Silkies eggs, with a very rich yolk

They're amazing little birds, everyone needs one! (or five). Congrats MyHaven! some very good layers you have there by the looks of things

A lot of girls around getting back into egg laying though after quite a break, that's awesome, lots of fresh eggs to go round!

Speaking of eggs just got my first guinea fowl egg of the season! Cant wait for more so I can start incubating.

So very sorry to hear you have lost Purple Boy.   ..... could it have been something he brought with him, from where you purchased him ?   

I know you hadn't had him for more than a couple ( or few ) weeks.   That is very sad.

Hope you can find another one soon, that is well.

Although it is possible for it to be something that came with him I think it unlikely, but will know it did if anyone else develops symptoms. because it took over 4 weeks to show I think it more likely that it was something local that all the flock here are immune to and he wasn't.

I won't go looking for more birds until I've moved again, unless one just happens to be advertised. If I get the place I'm hoping for it will have a much better quarantine area for me to use, had to have him in the brooder here when he first arrived and then again when he got sick.

I was sitting under the bottlebrush tree in the middle of the yard, when a rude pigeon pooped on me. Esme was watching, and I swear the little bugger laughed at me. She let out this funny longish cackle whilst looking right at me. Chickens appreciate toilet humour, who knew?

Agree with you there. They might be little birds in size but they are big in every other way.

Squirty my Rainbow lorikeet laughs this really evil laugh if you hurt yourself. I was outside recently and kicked my toe well there was a ouch and few other words and all i can here is her laughing,. Me yelling it's not funny while she continues to laugh away.

Good luck in getting the place you want ... and I do hope it turns out that Purple Boy did not bring anything in with him.

That it was as a result of what you suspect, - your flock immune, him not.

Mindy Araucana has just laid her 4th egg in 4 days - and it is only 10.15 a.m. ... This I cannot work out. It basically means that she is laying in under 24 hours each day.

The first egg was broken at one end, so I cooked it up for the chookies mash. The 2nd two were perfect, and I now have the 4th egg, another perfect effort. The 2nd egg was laid around 1 pm. so I figure she is going backwards with the timing.

Was always under the impression that chickens move around the clock, with approx. 25-26 hours between each egg.

If interested, could someone confirm that for me. ?
