Hi everyone.
After having spent my teens living and working (reluctantly, I might add) on a broiler farm, I didn't think that I would ever have chooks myself.
My daughter hounded me for years, selective hearing is a great Dad trait...
I had my huge avocado tree pruned (400 avocado's each year) and with the yard opened up, I thought why not ..
Last month I bought a flash coop and a trio of hybrids (white, black & red). Then.... I thought I might want more ... So I got a cheap 2nd coop on gumtree... Bargain $80 for the run a pair of pvc feeder and drinker, 2 hanging feeders, 2 hanging drinkers and 1/2 a bag of pellets.
I then purchased a lavender Araucana... Who turned out to be a single comb x and lays cream eggs.
Long story short the produce store finally supplied a replacement for free.
I also purchased 2 silkie bantam x and a beautiful Plymouth Rock.
I DID have a garden full of pak choy, then the 1m fence went up. After 3 of the chooks donned their flight gear, I added another 1600mm of antibird mesh and all is good.
I have added LED lighting on time clocks and we are getting a dozen eggs every 2 days.
I am enjoying the meditative time with my girls.
I signed up for waste veges and bread from woolies and use this to supplement the feed.
Currently using Riverina Red Label pellets, Riverina coarse mash, cracked corn, black sunflower seed, grass and kitchen scraps. They are very spoilt.
