Black legs with white soles bred to any breed with yellow legs produce legs with what color? Does the skin genes W-white dominant and w - yellow play some role in leg color incuding soles or no? Thanks

The yellow color I believe is straight recessive, so no yellow skin in the first generation crossing. However, the gene that makes yellow legs yellow and not slate with yellowish undertones is sexlinked dominant, so the actual color of the legs in the offspring depends on which parent the Australorp is, father or mother.

Australorp male x yellow-legged female would make white-legged male offspring and slate-legged female offspring.

The opposite cross, yellow-legged male x Australorp female, would get you all white-legged offspring.

In either case, of course, all offspring will be split for the recessive yellow-skin gene (W+/w) and the males in either case only carrying one copy of the gene to make light skin (Id/id+); since it is sexlinked, the females are either Id/- with white legs or id+/- with slate legs.

Not all black legged chickens have the id+ gene. The darkness is in the epidermis because of their black feathers, the E gene.
Supposing the bird is a black black legged white skinned bird, the offspring would probably have black shanks because they would have a copy of the E gene.

Whoops, I didn't know this! Thanks for the correction! 🙂
