Right but egg usually land in a place not accessible to the birds...maybe you're not done building?

I am confused. I am not planning on having the hens brood so not certain why they need to be accessible to them; but the eggs will remain in the area where they lay (at the front if it works) until collected so should be accessible.

the tilted bottom (removable in my case) causes the eggs to roll to the front, reduces breakage and makes collecting easier.

I understand the concept of these boxes. Will the eggs roll to the front, drop under your removable floor and not be visible to the chickens or will they just be at the front of the nest box? Normally the eggs are hidden from the chickens, after being laid.

Eggs will just be in the front of the nest box the way I have built it.

I looked on YouTube for details and that is how the vids I looked at instructed. I have seen threads on BYC where the eggs rolled to the back and out of sight of the hens but these were all nesting boxes built outside the coop proper and thought that it was more for the convenience of us humans than for a practical hen related reason.

I built the coop and nest boxes with screws, much easier to adjust if something goes awry. I can/will rebuild or adjust the nesting boxes to work properly but do not know what changes to make. Links?

On both of my roll out nest boxes the carpet runner is on top of the false floor and I put a foam rubber strip at the bottom wall so the eggs don't smack into the wood.
The one I built for my run which is outside is a rear exit roll out nest box and the one I built to go under my poop table is a front roll out nest box and a much simpler design (yet to be tested). The floor is removable so I can clean it, usually just a brush to clean the dirt but from time to time a hose is needed...

IMHO most of the videos on putube are garbage copies of other garbage... if there is a lot of hand waving and nonsense I don't watch it as they are only trying very badly to be an actor and usually don't care if the content is correct or not.
