Baby chick broken leg

I’m #3 to say without pictures there’s no telling.

If the fracture is on a “long bone” and you could approximate the ends and splint it, it’s possible it could heal. But tough to splint correctly.

In the joint... no.

Open to air... as @A_Fowl_Guy said... in all likelihood infection would set in.

I am hardly ever one to say this looks grim, but in this case until I see pics ( and I won’t see them til morning since DH is giving me the stink eye since he has to be up at the crack of dawn and me being awake keeps him half awake) , ....this probably looks grim... and if this is a tiny newborn chick, I’d hate to put them through 4-5 weeks of torture only to have to cull later.

Ok clear photos needed tomorrow morning. Make sure she’s warm and safe in the brooder for the night. In the meantime if you have any antibiotic ointment, PLEASE SLATHER IT ALL OVER THE EXPOSED AREA.
Please tag me in the morning.

If OP doesn’t I will.

I have some old antiseptic ointment. I was going to try to put the bone back and splint it is this a good idea

Get pictures first and wait to get a response on them. I'll be up late and Kathy is on the west coast so she'll probably be around too.

I wouldn’t until you can post some pics. That may injure the bird even more and cause it undue pain.
But his whole lower leg is completely limp it can turn all directions and he has no mobility of it won’t it start to heal with the bone out if I don’t try to get it back in and splint it ??
