baby duck with lots of problems

I was sitting here at the computer when i hear this crash and think probably one of my chickens has jumped into the water bucket and knocked it over, well it was my young gander he stepped on the chicken waterer trying to get to the gate there was a deer on the outside of the fence and it started snorting probably as scared as the geese and ducks were and boy did those geese and ducks high tail it to the gate scared them to death. lol This is the gate I keep closed to keep the geese and ducks away from my old drake and his 2 girls. They are still inside a no climb horse fence but I think that deer really scared them. Poor babies. Never a dull moment
Never I dull moment. lol Ducks running from deer and deer probably getting ready to have a heart attack with duck and geese running towards it. Then the water bucket was in the way. Poor babies..

Well geese are just awesome I cannot imagine not having them, there are some draw backs Breeding season which is from later winter till usually end of May the ganders are something else they are so protective and will go after the rest of the flock even to injury if your not careful. The females lay an egg every other day and they are good brooders and the ganders stand watch and dare anyone to come near. I don't let them intimidate me that is one thing you cannot do with geese is let them scare you. they are big bluffs but if they feel they have the upper hand they will take advantage of it and a goose bite hurts. they also flog with their wings. Young children need to always be supervised when around geese to during breeding season other times they are pretty gentle. Now that mine are through with breeding and laying they are again pretty easy to be around for me but they still don't like the ducks and chickens I caught Babe with a mouth full of chicken feathers just a couple days ago. They did spend the whole month of May and June in their own fenced off area because they were so hateful and they hate broody ducks too. lol Plus I had 4 baby bantam chicks running around with their mamas and from reading I know geese have been known to kill babies so they were in goose jail till this past week. Baby chicks are on their own and stay away from them now.

Mine all have their own houses but they all free range inside a fenced half acre daily and when I can be with them all they can come outside of the fence too.
They also live a long time up to 40 yrs and more so it is very much a commitment.I even have made provisions for my ducks geese and chickens if something were to happen to me. They are my enjoyment in life not so much the rest of my families. They like them but not so much the daily care.

I hope Clyde doesn't have bumble.
Yeah I would love to see pics of your geese. I know I hope he doesn't have bumble foot. Topper had it about a year ago and we cleared hers up.

If you can treat it early it's much easier to heal. I haven't had to treat any of my water fowl but did have 2 hens with bumble used Epsom salt soaks and colorless iodine worked great.
What did you do to treat Topper? always good to hear everyone's treatment method.

I didn't watch Dark Shadows isn't that the one with the vampires? I vaguely remember that one. Oh yes they were a lot tamer back then. They would never skinny dip in the pool like Que Sera and Yoo Hoo. lol

I looked at the weather prediction for the next three days. I'm sending you all showers and thunderstorms. I don't want them. I'm tired of mud and all my ducks umbrellas turned upside down from the last storm.

I'm not looking forward to trying to catch Clyde today. He is limping bad and I'm afraid he has bumblefoot. He is the peking and Que Seras baby daddy.

Have a great day all and get ready for all this rain.

Patty
p.s. Que Sera had her breakfast and she is doing fine.

LOL well next we'll see Que Sera on front of a Mag with Yoo Hoo and they have run off to some remote island. or flew off or swam off

Thanks for the rain too we have been getting some since last sat. and boy we sure need it.

We have lots of ponds near where I work. I see the Canadian Geese and their breeding season seems to be from February through end of April or so. I've experienced first hand how protective they are, but I've never let them see me scared. Your geese are just beautiful!! I think I like the lighter colored one (not the white

) best. Are they like ducks...needing a few females per male? Do you think I could get by with only females? At this point, my plan is to steer clear of hatching. I purposefully got ducks that are typically not the broody type.

They are just beautiful. I had no idea they lived to be 40 years old. That is a long commitment. They sound like a joy to have. Thanks so much for sharing their pictures and telling us about them. I do love to read everyones stories about their birds.

I always thought dh stood for darling husband. lol I got that one wrong. Sorry about that Deb.

p.s. I had to rescue our albino frog from the hallway. He lost his mate about a week ago and I think he's looking for her. Never a dull moment in my house. I need to take Que Sera out and see how she does today. I hope she is in a sociable mood today.

Patty

Aww poor froggie. are you going to get him a new mate?

I hope Que Sera enjoys her out door time today I bet Yoo Hoo is waiting for her.

Geese can actually live longer than that someone said of one who lived up into 80's. Carolina Water Fowl rescue has geese 40 yrs and older.
