baby duck with lots of problems

I had to put the little crock water bowl back in the cage. They were absolutely flooding that cage. They were soaking wet all the time and with the air conditioning on I was afraid they were going to get to cold. They still have a light over their cage but I don't think it was warm enough for them. I'll just have to add water every hour to the bowl.

We have a small pen in the back yard we call the baby pen. They could go in that when they outgrow the cage but Turbo has got to get his balance before he can do that. It seems like he is getting longer which makes him look skinnier. I'm still putting the nutridrench in his water daily.

I'm still trying to get my grandson to take pics I'll post them as soon as I can.

Good night all.

I remember when my duckies were little I had a heck of a time trying different water containers trying to keep their brooder dry! It's not easy since they love to play in it. One that I wish that I tried was sort of a drip pan method. @Kaessa did it for her babies and it looked like it worked great. She had their water dish resting on a wire rack that was on top of a 9 x 13 baking pan I think.

It's important that they stay dry though since you're right, they could catch a chill.

This is not the update I like to write about. Turbo seems to be a lot weaker this morning. He is flipping so much more and he doesn't have the strength to right himself. I'm going to the dollar tree to find some kind of container to replace the little box. The box is constantly on it's side and he can't balance him self on that. The little cookie tin I was using wasn't tall enough he kept falling out the side of it.

I'm going to start hand feeding him again and see how that goes. All he wants to do in his cage is drink his water. He's not eatting enough just drinking water. Que Sera is now as big as Turbo. They were eating side by side now Turbo just drinks while she eats.At least their staying dry since I switched back to the crock bowl. The drip pan with the 13 x 9 pan would take up so much room in their cage.

Remember Turbo in your thoughts and prayers he was doing so much better then this happens. Thanks so much for the rooting section we really need it.

Just wanted to let you all know that Turbo ate twice today. He ate applesauce mixed with his chick starter. He ate quite a bit I was happy to see him putting it away. He won't eat at all unless Que Sera is being held. If she is peeping in the cage he won't even open his mouth to take a bite.

I found a little casserole dish that is perfect for them to lay in. He's able to get in and out of it and it's not tipping on it's side. I got 3 different containers at the Dollar Tree hoping that one of them would be right for him.

Tonight I'm going to turn the light off and cover their cage with a blanket. I usually leave the light on all night and I'm thinking maybe he is not getting enough sleep. We usually turn the air conditioner off at night so they should stay plenty warm with the blanket around their cage.

Thanks for the rooting section I was feeling pretty down this morning when he was flipping so much and he just looked so pitiful. I'll try and get those pics tomorrow it rained most of the day and I want to take a pic of him standing in the flowers outside.

Glad to hear he ate. you tell him he had us all worried. Good idea about the light it does interrupt their sleep to have a light on.unless the red or blue they are not suppose to.
Hopefully this is just a minor setback now with a new casserole dish to help him stay upright and Que Sera at his side he'll bounce right back.

You might think I'm crazy but I was out shopping at 6:30 this morning for applesauce. Then I had to wake my husband up to hold Que Sera while I fed Turbo at 7:00. He's a good sport he kept Que Sera entertained while Turbo ate. I tried to fix him a little bib so he wouldn't get so messy while eating. I cut the hole to big for the bib and it kept sliding down his chest. Needless to say I had as much food on me as he had on him. He ate really well and I'm hoping that he puts more weight on.

When I turned the light off last night I thought she would peep a lot but she didn't make a sound. I covered them with a blanket and when I uncovered them this morning they were laying together sleeping. I had a red bulb for them but it was to hot. They were both panting so I had to switch to a regular 100 watt bulb.

I just wonder why Turbo is so quiet. Sometimes when your holding him he will make a little peeping noise that you can barely hear. Que Sera sounds like she is hooked up to her own pa system when Turbo is removed from the cage. Turbo doesn't peep if we take Que Sera out of the cage.

I've got to feed the chickens and ducks hope everyone has a great day I'm still trying to get those pics. It's a sunny day so hopefully we can take some outside.
