baby duck with lots of problems

Oh gosh Patty glad everyone is safe and yes I really think Roos are the best protection for the flock. I was standing at the kitchen window one day and saw my lil game bantam roo leap into the air after a chicken hawk, not sure what he would have done with it if he had made it fall.
That is one brave roo. Those little ones think they are big don't they?

Patty

They have gotten up on the patio table before but not often. They prefer the flower bed. They have destroyed everything but my spike plant. It must not taste very good and that's the reason they leave it alone.

The bantams are the worst. They have those little bodies and big wings. I can see them getting in that window box since it's 4 foot off the ground. Chickens prefer the comfortable furniture. They get in our lawn chairs and if let them in the house they will find the beds or the couch very much to their liking.

Nothing is scared when you have chickens your right they think we planted it all for them. So far I have only had one chicken in my bedroom and she was sick so I was able to keep her contained. In the back door to the kitchen that's about it with the chickens but now Opie just comes in and makes himself at home.

Every weekend my dad, grandpa, and i goto a doughnut shop and across the street is a house with chickens and muscovies (did I spell that right?) and we can watch the ducks fly all over, too the neighbors and on the roof and sometimes they cross the street to the business area, so my mom went with us today and saw two scovies walking under the window and fell in love with them. So I think maybe I might be able to do some convincing over time. Calling it 'operation more ducks' haha. I think before next breeding season we'll have to get another female anyways. Because there are three males and only two females and Dave is already being all alpha and poor Henry and Charlie can't even get Peas in the morning without me pulling Davie out.

Scovies are awesome. More ducks in your future Yay!!!

Do you have a doggie door? Does Opie come in by himself through the door? I wish Que Sera would do that but she still hasn't mastered the steps yet. The way Opie walks just kills me. It's that swagger he has I could just pick him up and squeeze him.

It sounds like you can enable your mom to get some ducks.

Thats great. It sounds like you need more females too.

Everyday in our yard is breeding season. I know it's a lot more in the spring but mine breed all year long.

I'm surprised at Davie for not letting poor Henry and Charlie eat their peas in the morning. I know they have to show their dominence but that is not nice.

I got another green egg today. This one I will boil and let the ducks and chickens eat it. Hubbie blew out the first egg and I put a little band around the bottom of it and put Muffins name and the date she laid it.

Davie is a sweetheart to me and to Sally and Lady but to the male ducks he isn't the nicest..i love him but he sure gets all alpha on the boys. He knows he does wrong too because I can yell Davie or something and he stops and quacks at me like "I wasn't doing anything" and runs when I try to catch him for 'time outs' he'll hang his head too and quietly quack at the ground when I scold him.

I want to work on getting another female duck like I said before, what should I try and work towards? So I can bombard my mom with pictures of them being cute haha. My mom likes the scovies but are the super big? And we don't know how to clip wings either so I'm not sure if that would work.

We do have a doggie door in the solid door and my dh put one in the screen door too, Opie will use the one in the screen door but not the solid door. Maybe because he can't see what's on the other side.

He does have his swagger down pat now. lol
