Your correct just like duck eggs the hen has to incubate them first so if eggs are collected every day no baby chicks and no difference in taste eitherThey don't want a roo because they don't want the eggs fertilized..but Isn't it the same as ducks where they don't develop until they're sat on for a while? Sorry if I'm wrong but I'm a newbie to all this stuff. I really want a roo though because of how protecting they are!
AND who knows your mom may just want to hatch some chicks of her own. one nice thing about letting your own hens hatch is the chicks are accepted into the flock easier and you can limit the amount of eggs she sits own. They don't care if it's 2 or 10 eggs as long as they get to sit. My EE's have never been broody and they are 3.5 yrs old.
