baby duck with lots of problems

If someone is being mean to them then your doing the right thing. and keeping them up at night. I have a few Large fowl hens who even scare my Muscovy Drake Opie[don't tell him I told you all] some hens go beyond the pecking order and are just ornery.
How old are your younger ones now?
Awe, poor opie! and I beliebe they're around the four month mark now.

My newest Wonky duck, unlike the others I get occasionally this one has no problem walking around or anything....her ankles and feet developed wrong . she runs around the brooder on her ankles and the sides of her feet....definitely permanent chicken coop resident tho. No way I am risking this little cutie in the ducks pen.

How many of these Wonky ducks do you have? Could it be from inbreeding? bator fluctuations ? That is sad to me although it's adorable lil duckling to have to walk that way just sad.

Its not inbreeding none of my adults are related. I have only gotten 4 of them over the last two years and the rest of the ducklings have no problems at all. It is slightly possible that she is the baby of Miss Wonky, I have never seen the boys show interest in her and I was sure she wasn't laying but I don't stare at them all the time so its a possibility I missed it. I wouldn't intentionally hatch any of Miss Wonkys eggs, and the baby was hatched by a broody hen not incubator.

Are they all still living? just wondering how long a duck can have a good quality of life like that seems it would take it's toll on the legs and feet after a while.

Awe, precious little cutie. I'd kiss her. I'm sorry about her feet.

Miss Wonky does , she's spoiled tho. When it's cold she stays with the younger ducks in the chicken coop with a heat lamp. I may make this one into a house duck and try to help her have the best life she can.

Those dang Coopers Hawks had babies this spring apparently. I've seen them everyday this week in the surrounding trees watching our chickens and ducks! Theres two big ones and some smaller, I guess theyre teaching the young ones to hunt. Luckily I've been out there to put the chickens in the coop, I just don't know what to do about the hawks! I wish I could get a rooster to put my mind more at ease.

You may have a hen who has taken the lead, have you heard anyone making a warning sound. It's not 100%fool proof even having a roo, I lost a hen back in July to a hawk but he can help. Sometimes when there isn't a roo a hen will take over and become flock leader and sound the warning. As for the hawks we'll always have them but we just have to do our best to keep our flocks safe. You could try hanging old cd's around your yard in low branches, they say the shiny reflection makes Birds of prey reluctant to come down. You can go to the Predator and Prey thread and ask how others keep hawks away .
