Banded Pigeon Found - Assistance Please

Oyster shell and grit are two different things.

True - but it can be used by pigeons for grit at least short term and pigeon hens that are laying can benefit from the extra calcium. I just bought some oyster shell to mix in the grit for my hens.

Eta - pigeons are seeking certain minerals from the grit also, that's why they have such fancy grit for pigeons. I have some of the red clay grit as well as a mixture with tiny shells and other bits and types of minerals. I even see them eating clay type dirt occasionally.

Another thing OP could do is pull up a handful of weeds(free of pesticides), shake most of the dirt of and let the bird pick thru it. They need some greens as well.

What if he is a boy bird?
Would the extra calcium be bad for him?
(For a few days I wouldn't imagine it would do much harm but long term use?)

Sorry. I should have clarified. Our ducks are out of their run most days and free range the property for 2-4 hours a day (often more in the summer). As such, we don't supplement grit (except in winter when the ground is frozen and/or snow covered). We do offer crushed oyster shells free choice next to their food for our girls, and so that is all we have on hand. I'm going to get a bag of pigeon grit. :)

Off subject, which is very interesting BTW, but how do I bookmark? I strictly use a mobile device. Can it be done?
No, unfortunately the bookmarking options is not available yet on mobile.
