Think it's the heat affecting hatch rates or is it just a bad year for boys all around?

I had a family drive a couple hours to me yesterday, for a chocolate Orpington cockerel. They ended up taking a few extras, including a chocolate orp pulley, and my calico cochin roo, and a little solid black cochin mix with all black skin, but no other indications of being anything other than cochin (silkie in her background, i presume), and my last very young splash cochin. I have to hope that the broody on eggs now hatches some splashes! i want to make an all-splash pen.

The gold laced ( #1) and white (#2) look Iffy
I'm only asking because I have 4 cochin chicks who I will need to figure out sex with. Any other breed I dealt with, all 3 of those would be definite males. Do cochins get bigger, pinker combs early? I noticed with my silver laced Wyandotte that her comb got bigger than usual and a little pink earlier than I am used to but she is definitely a female. So is it the same with cochins?
