Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Pics
Hello, I am new to Barnevelders and just hatched 6! 2 Bantams and 4 standards. I noticed that 3 are darker than the others... the 2 Bantams and 1 of the Standard size. Is that any indication of gender? Here are some pics. They are not great pics as they will be 1 day old today and I took these last night. So they are still glued and have not fluffed up yet..still cute!!!
Thanks!

Not a gender indicator. Once you have your own flock you may be able to pick out roosters early, by color, when compared to previous chicks, but nothing guarenteed. Some "lines" have lighter colored birds and some have darker ones, so without a previous knowledge of the "particular line" gender would be just a guess, based on color, at this age...JMO.... You will not be able to tell the potential quality, as far as pattern and color, until they are older. Did the eggs all come form the same breeder, the standards and the bantams?

Yes, they all came from the same breeder and I really am not sure how her line runs at this age as far as color. This is the first time I bought from her. From this age, do their markings indicate anything or just wait and see? THanks again

That scares me...lets just hope the "her" is not "THE HER"....if it is you are on the same path as many before you, with nothing but disappointment ahead...search the name of the breeder here, if it is "THE HER" you will get plenty of search results to peruse...My opinion is that they are too young to tell anything yet...give them a few weeks

I have been looking for a breed to work with for my new coop. I wanted a rare type breed that needs help. I've been searching and haven't found "the one". So I had been thinking of maybe doing Marans. (but didn't really want to be in on the Marans breeding craze - don't get me wrong, I love their beautiful eggs, but there's so many people breeding them)

Then it happened. I saw a picture of a barnevelder and I'm in love.

I've got eggs lined up for springtime, so count me in.

Thank you!

Now if only I could sweet talk tls for some eggs from those blue laced to play around with.....I would need not go any further in search of another chicken.

Gosh that blue lace is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

In case ya'll didn't know......I am totally addicted to blue chickens!
