Hi, I got 4 chicks from a local ranch (not ranch store, but actual ranch). 2 buff orps and 2 barred rock. The BR should be about 6 weeks now. I've looked through many forums here and they don't look much at all like what ya'll describe - I don't see barring, head spots, etc. I assume that means they are some sort of mix, correct, or are they another breed entirely? Also, one holds its tail pointing up, is that a characteristic of a male or not indicative of sex?
Pictures 1, 2, and 4 are of the same bird.

Not Australorps as they both show some barring. So they very well could be Barred Rock crosses. But not pure as they are showing mostly black and white skin. Pure Plymouth Rocks would be yellow skinned.
Even better, 2 in 1 lol. Their wing primary feathers are mostly white, if that means anything.

I personally see no baring. Better photos may help. Australorp start out with white wing feathers that molt out to black eventually.

I agree on it being an Astralorp. Totally the wrong face for a Barred Rock and not enough barring. The few white tips may disappear as the feathers finish maturing
