Barred Rocks!!

My barred rock Sandy she is Top Hen just as I hoped she would be! She definitely is good with with all the other 8 chickens, I'm so proud of her! My son and I were hoping she would establish herself since she was ousted from her group at the breeds and kept flying into the silkie coop when they finaly let her stay there. I wish I took a picture of her so massive over the silkies but a lot tamer. The 6 little chickens will be bigger or the same size as her when they are 5months old, so I hope her confidence is up and she stays top hen. Our partridge silkie is next in line and is Sandy's right hand hen and the white silkie is the court jester LOL.

My Barred Rocks will be here soon! Any help or input with the breed would be greatly appreciated! They're my first at laying and my first Barred Rocks

I got my first chicks ever last week. Our barred rock Lucy is by far my favorite. So calm, curious, and trusting she is. My only regret as far as chickens go is not buying more barred rocks. :)

Sorry about that, the barred rocks are a great breed for eggs and pets and generally hardy birds. They can fly fairly well for a chicken so proper precautions should be taken when it comes to the their run. I got mine on accident went to pick up my silkies and there is this massive BR towereing over the silkies and my son and I were like why she there? and the breeder said she was the smallest of all the BR's and would stand in the corner then fly into the silkie coop and she did it so much he finaly stopped putting her back and left her. So we got our silkies and took her home. Now she is our flock leader. She is very intelligent super sweet and very talkative! Post your picks!

*** BARRED ROCK QUESTIONS***

I've searched every where online and keep getting different answers....

How many years will Barred Rocks lay eggs?

How long do Barred Rocks live (everywhere says long lived, but no one gives a year average)?

Also, I have 3 barred rock hens (my favorite!) that are 6 months old and only 1 is laying (and has been for a month), should I be worried?

Hi, just found this post. I have 1 BR hen named Ally thats just over a year old. I also received my 12 new BR chicks which should be 11 pullets and 1 cockral. :)
