BDutch's bantam flock & natural breeding projects #5 🪺 🪺 and #6

I've noticed Mary often wipes her beak on hard surfaces, maybe to keep it trimmed?
My chickens always wipe their beaks after eating wet food like yoghurt. It helps trim to trim their beaks. But somehow Ini mini doesn’t do this much. I don’t know why she never took care of her growing beak.

I helped her a little last year. But it's hard to get the tip of the beak off with sandpaper or a nail file without tormenting or hurting her. I also tried a nail clipper once. But it started to bleed. While I was sure I only cut off a small tip. It seemed a blood vessel grew into to tip of her beak.

Today I made a new picture. Yesterday there must have been a little piece of the food under the upper beak that gave a wrong impression. Today she is clean and its obvious the upper beak is still a bit longer as it should be. But not as bad as before.

We have a real warm mothers day. Sunny and 24°C. Its the first day the chickens clearly seek the shadow to relax.
