We've had coyotes, hawks, skunk, possum, and stray dogs in the yard and a wolf to darn close-about 60-70 yards from the house. It was in our heifer pasture. I just am afraid that it's to dangerous for them to free range. I'm getting really concerned for our calves that are housed in hutches and small pens outside. Beefy, Margaret was not very cooperative, but I got this blurry one. You can tell she's matured some.

Dutch, stealing scratch-he's gotten bad about coming up to the wraparound porch and begging for scratch, along with a few ladies. He crows in the door and my dog jumps out of her skin.

i know the type. Mavis and Muriel know what the red cup means! i plan to switch to a blue cup in the near future.

Got these while I was out and about a few minutes ago. The first one is Mace, Dutch's little brother. He's more slender than Dutch, more like his mama, but he's filling out nicely, I think. He's about 21 weeks old now.

This is my other Welsummer, Alma. She was investigating a nest today, so my first Wellie egg isn't far away.

What a beautiful day!!!!! Oh Cynthia, they are all just gorgeous!!!!! Those RIR's from Julie are such a nice deep, dark color. Makes me want to add them to my list for next year, but my coops are busting at the seems now.

Your little Snow (Ameraucana) reminds me so much of my Stella.

I love the pic of them all lined up taking their dust baths.

Do you let the flocks free range all day or do you let them out of the run in the afternoon after they lay?

I was just telling dh that I felt sorry for them that I was going to let them out all day and coop them up at night, but the local owl keeps flying in eye balling everyone. After one swooped down to check them out a few days ago, I changed my mind and just let them out about 4pm before betime to scratch around.

Oh yea, do you still have your Delawares? Thanks for sharing pics of your gorgeous flock.

Yes, I still have my Delawares! They are turning out so pretty-14 weeks old now.
The laying flock gets to range most of every day. Suede's group gets out maybe an hour a day after the main group is locked up OR before they are let out. We have hawks and all types of predators, but so far, my roosters have done a great job of keeping the girls safe. They all run back to the coop to lay, no matter where they are, so I've not had any trouble in that dept.
