Now there are three votes for Emden geese. How do they compare to Toulouse/Sevastopol geese? Whenever I drive by a farm that has geese usually that's the breed I see... Why?

Embdens are probably the best meat breed. And they lay fairly well. They are also carried by most every hatchery and are usually the cheapest. Embdens are relatively quiet and docile as well. And with their large size they are less likely to be killed by predators.

I've never kept geese, but I like the pilgrim geese that live at a local park. They're calm and friendly, especially as compared to the others. A female pilgrim goose down there actually adopted a batch of dumped Easter ducklings last month!

That is so precious and they had to be dumptees also just like any other domestic that end up at ponds rivers and lakes.

I have been considering adding geese but want to get a very very docile breed if I do.

When I was about 5 I was outside playing at my babysitter's and their flock of about 30 emdens attacked me all at once. I was terrified!

I would want my geese to be good watch dogs but also be very tame and friendly. If possible even friendly to stangers. Foraging is good and I don't want them to wander off.

Any suggestions?

I saw a couple baby geese my friend got hatchery choice and I fell in love!

If you want a guard goose I suggest you to get a Chinese goose not only they are loud they are also good for beginners. One more thing don't keep more than one. Try keeping a female, males can be nasty during breeding season and he will harass your flock instead of protecting. If you keep 2 or 3 of them they will herd away together and leave your flock on their luck.
