Best way to trap a fox?

I have a persistent adult red fox coming around and causing trouble at least once a week.
What is the best way to trap a fox?

If you can shoot it, that would be your best bet. I have heard trapping foxes is near impossible.
Fox kits here are now out of the den, and look big enough to probably survive on their own. Fox parents raise their kits together, and sometimes a vixen from the previous year stay and help feed the kits. Most likely you have more than one fox.

I figured as much. I'm thinking there is a mated pair here. I forgot about Vixens.

And what if I can't just shoot it without trapping it? I live in a culdesac with children.

Snares would work.

Can you get help with your local ACO? I would try trapping it, then perhaps bring the trap to a secluded area on the property and using a well placed .22 to the head. Aim up through the base of the head, where back of head meets spine, posterior to anterior. Since you will be above the animal, you can direct your shot in a safe direction. Is there a place on your property where you can safely shoot? If that's not an option, you may have to pay a local exterminator to deal with it. That may be an expensive undertaking as there are most likely more than one.

I'll try that. I like that idea.
Next season I'm trapping a lot to try to lower the predator population.

What is the best way to trap a fox?...

There are many videos on youtube etc on how to pinch the toes of red foxes. As an added benefit most of these methods will also work on coyotes.

The only way I know with foxes is to leave the trap out unbaited for about 2 weeks. This way they get used to it being a part of the environment. Then try baiting with some canned cat food. It could take longer in some circumstances. Snares will catch a fox if you can bottleneck their path. In a culdesac like you say I would hesitate to use snares. The chance of indiscriminately snaring a neighbor's pet or child is too high.
