Big "thing" on Aylesbury duck foot.

Perhaps it’s just me and I mean this in the kindest of ways. Try to find a vet that has treated bumble foot. That would be my first question. Bumble has been treated without anesthesia. There are topical sprays to make it numb. So often vets don’t Have the proper anesthesia for birds. So they do what they can. In my day it was isoflorin. It’s expensive for the vets to purchase and if they don’t have a need to they don’t keep it on hand. I see too that you are in England so I truly know nothing of the vet services provided. Bumble is staph infection and based by photo’s your pet has a bad case of it. If it doesn’t improve I’d ask ... have you treated bumble before? I’m surprised the vet didn’t even scrape the scab off to look closer. I truly do wish only a full recovery. I’m just a bit perplexed. Please keep us posted to follow the progress. Best wishes

I’d have to try and get that scab off but I understand if others don’t feel comfortable trying but I think the only way that will heal is with antibiotics and removing the plug. It can take a week or more of soaking before the scab will peel up . Can you get clear iodine or DMSO? In the UK?

Hi! I’m not sure it might not be available in the UK. The vet has treated bumblefoot before and seemed pretty confident that the antibiotics would work. We are continuing to bathe her and the scab is starting to soften so we may be able to peel it off and remove the plug. No foot pics I’m afraid we were in a bit of a rush this morning and afternoon but have a picture of Eliza enjoying her bath! I think she’s starting to enjoy it! Her antibiotics are easy to administer and she doesn’t seem in as much pain as she was so something might be working!
Thanks for all the advice again!

Looks like Eliza is enjoying her spa treatments! ❤️

Hello! No luck with her scab yet but another few baths and it may be off. With our recent revelations with Eliza, we decided to check our other two ducks for any signs of bumblefoot. Peggy was fine, she’s the smallest, but Angelica is showing signs of the early stages of bumblefoot. Once we’ve mangaged to get Eliza in a good place, we’ll deal with her. Eliza’s foot is slowly getting better we think and the scab should come off soon.
Thanks for all the advice,
May
