I saw the first baby quail this morning! The mom and dad led them out of the brush pile, where their nest probably is. I couldn't get any pictures, as they were too far away, but there were at least six little fuzzballs!

Aww, I love baby quail! We used to have some come by every morning, but then we removed our feeder and changed their habits. I still see them around now and then though.

I've been watching a couple of grackles chase off a pesky squirrel. I am seriously rooting for the grackles because squirrels have been wrecking my garden and constantly dig holes to bury walnuts in my yard.

I love Mockingbirds! We have a bunch here, and a pair built a nest in a bush right outside my living room window. I can look right into the nest, which is awesome.

He's beautiful! I hope I get to see a couple mockingbirds this year! Apparently there's a few in my area but I haven't noticed any yet!

The problem with mockingbirds is, that during breeding season, they will sing all day and all night. Ugh.

I went on vacation this weekend in Western Washington. There are so many different birds there! I saw a red-winged blackbird chasing away an immature bald Eagle, and a red-headed woodpecker was trying to peck a hole in the house. Luckily for us, he didn't succeed. Oh, and before I left, I saw an Oriole! It's the first one I've seen this year. Once the mulberries get ripe, they'll be here every morning. They're the only beings that like them.
