Biscuits or Cornbread?

I cain't do the "Pot-Likker" !!!!

When I was a boy...claiming to be sick...so I could stay home from school....

My Mother would make me drink "Pot-Likker" (made from turnip-greens).....I hated that-thar stuff !!!

(that cured me real quick and I'd go back to school.)

I STILL can't stand turnips or turnip greens !!!

I'd eat cornbread or biscuits anytime of the day. And I like them both with honey - yummy, yummy, yummy! If I'm eating cornbread for breakfast, I mix a little breakfast sausage, green pepper, and cheese in the batter and bake. Now I'm hungry!

I couldn't eat all my leftover cornbread today so I shared it with the hen that is spending a couple days in the house.

oldchickenlady, I love purple hull peas too, pot liquor and the tomatoe with cornbread. Can't do the onions, they don't like me.

Fry the bacon in the cast iron skillet, add the bacon and most of the fat to the cornbread, with some green chilies, cheese and cilantro and put the batter in the hot oil in the skillet to get a nice bacony crust on the cornbread. Serve with chili or collard greens cooked with ham, or ham bean soup.

I know what's going on the menu this week!

Crap....I didn't even make it past page 3.

Edit to say that I am on the hunt (always) for the best biscuits and gravy. I have a decent one of my own going on but the hunt continues.​
