Biscuits or Cornbread?

Best beans in the whole world grown just south of here near Dove Creek. I either soak em over nite and slow cook all next day or put them in the presure cooker and are done in 40 minutes. Either way they must have a Ham hock tossed in. ..And served Corn bread! with butter, maple syrup, served on a saucer with milk. Left over beans are made into enchilada filling or Chilli con Carne. Gotta do something with all the peppers from the garden.

You guys are making me hungry and I just finished dinner.

Guess I am a 'yankee' then, cause I prefer "northern" beans to pintos

I've always thought it fascinating that in one country, there can be so many different accents, traditional foods, regional terms for things (e.g. soda/pop).
Fortunately, I live in CA, where we have many diverse cultures, foods, languages, etc., the best of all worlds so to speak.
That being said, this thread I find amusing to read, because I know both corn bread and biscuits are traditionally southern foods. I enjoy cornbread with chili maybe twice a year. I could take sweet or not either way, must have butter though.
Biscuits? I too am guilty of using the canned, but I do enjoy biscuits and gravy as a side dish for breakfast, twice a year.
Really though, fascinating that in one country so may different cultures. Of course that is not a trait unique to the U.S. as many countries have regioanl dialects, foods, traditions, etc., but I still find that fact fascinating

Biscuits or cornbread? NEITHER! I've taken a vow to give up bread.

Ok, it's not going very well...BISCUITS for breakfast...CORNBREAD with my beans!
I'm not a 1/2 way kinda person! In fact, I like to think I'm 'well-rounded' - because of biscuits & cornbread

Cornbread only TWICE a year?

I would die...probably in the first few weeks. Starve plumb to death, I would.
Love my wife dearly...she ever stop the cornbread, beans and taters, she's
outta here.

If you can't get cornbread in California, what do you people use for food out there?

DROP the bread....switch to rice.

My Father lost a LOT of weight as a POW in WW 2 by eating rice. (and very little else...)

(but, don't give up on the veggies, meat, fruit, etc.........that's necessary.)

Nope. When I was growing up it was a daily thing, and I still love it at times. Gotta be real milk though, just doesn't taste the same in store bought milk. I've got one of those big old glass coca-cola glasses on a stem (Big heavy goblet type thing) that is my special milk & bread glass.

And I ain't never figured out why they call those grands or whatever they are canned biscuits. They are in a can, but they sure as blazes ain't nothing like a biscuit. Taste more like a cross between a half cooked pie crust and a dry dumplin'. And you can't sop up molassis worth a darn with one.
I miss Ma's big ole cat head biscuits.
