black bears?

In the words of Ted Nugent, "Place a finely tuned broadhead into its pump factory."

If Fred Bear can take down a grizzly with a longbow, you can bring down a black bear with a compound bow.

There is an old saying that, "If turkeys could smell and bears could see, no one would ever shoot one."

Bears are nearsighted so as long as you are downwind and very quiet you should be fine, but if that bear knows you are there - you'll never get a shot. Good Luck.

All I know is, I want to see pics if you get it. PLEASE

Try to stay within 20 yards, 30 like you said is the max. Or go up 15 pounds on your bow. The lst bear I killed with a bow was about 5 yards away. I never want to be that close again, so I now call on my 2 good friens, Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson. Your bow kill will be a lot cleaner if your shot is well placed. Try to get a shot quartering away and aim 4 to 6 inches behind the shoulder. This will get the heart and lungs. You will find the bear less than 50 yards from where you shot it. Good luck be safe and carry a BIG hand gun.
If you miss and the bear heads for you, you won't have time to notch another arrow. Just last week a man not to far from here didn't have time for a second shot with a gun and was mauled. The last I heard he may loss his arm. OH!, by the way to all you relocaters, this was a bear that had been taged and relocated by a bear group, against the wishes of the Fish and Game Dept. This bear had broke into a number of home in the Tahoe area.

Well, I am sure anxious to find out how this turns out. Hopefully, with pictures of a dead bear.

If we never hear from him again, we will assume the bear won out.

I agree with the couple post about shot placement, but for your own sight, check on line for bear vitals.....and WATCH that facing front shoulder....WAIT for the step.

I'm not sure of you EXACT setup, but I'm assuming with 28 1/2", and 314 fps your using carbon arrows, and expandable tips??

personally I don't like expandable tips for bear....I would up draw weight (if possible)....you can practice with it, but you really only need one in the woods (or backyard LOL), and I would go with atleast a 125 grain fixed blade broadhead. just practice with setup...and know the vitals.

but in this situation, its NOT shoot, shovel, shut up....its shoot, grill, shut up (or invite me for supper)....but seriously check regulations, to atleast proctect yourself and figure out how much to hide.

Oh my goodness...lol way to boost the confidence.

Maybe its time to put a electric fence zone around the coop?

Do you have dogs? Bears will often avoid where there are dogs. Mostly because they are a hassle.

I assume the bear has made it into hibernation by now. There is always next year.
