Was the one with the copper neck supposed to be the Cockerel?

ETA: the saddle and tail feathers look like it might be.

Do pullets have spurs? The chicken without copper has spurs starting to grow.

Yes, it's entirely possible. Both genders can grow spurs.

Yeah, that looks like a pullet to me.
Why is it that chickens that we want to be hens are cockerels and vice versa?

It honestly looks like a pullet to my eye. Granted it's been a few years since I had my BCM's but I do distinctly remember the cockerals were much redder and larger in the comb by that age. Doesn't mean it's the same for all though.

Found some very old pictures of a couple of my BCM's. These were taken around 12-14 weeks I believe? I can't remember but they were certainly less than 15. As you can see the cockeral had a VERY prominent comb and wattles by that point. They both developed their copper in later weeks.

Well heck looks like I might have 4 hens. Not the end of the world. He/she sure does rule the flock at this young age. Glad to see that color comes in later down the road. At $20 each want to make sure their BCM. Breeder lady I purchased from guarantees hens/cockerel.
