That is false. If it were that easy, nobody would ever get accidental cockerels. As young chicks, their anatomies are the same. Bones are not different until a pullet hits puberty and those pelvic bones spread to allow eggs through.they look the same at the moment but I have just been told a trick to find out if it is boy or girl. within the 24 hours upon the hatch we pick up a chick. boys will stretch their legs and keep them together while girls will lift up their legs and keep them wide apart like they are trying to run. it has to do with the fact that girl will lay and their bones are different at hatch so they cannot keep their legs together.
I will tell you later if that works. I cannot say now which one is supposed to be a girl, they look the same.
