Black Copper Marans - Time progression of sexing - UPDATED with WEEKs #1-3 PICTURES

Pics
they look the same at the moment but I have just been told a trick to find out if it is boy or girl. within the 24 hours upon the hatch we pick up a chick. boys will stretch their legs and keep them together while girls will lift up their legs and keep them wide apart like they are trying to run. it has to do with the fact that girl will lay and their bones are different at hatch so they cannot keep their legs together.

I will tell you later if that works. I cannot say now which one is supposed to be a girl, they look the same.
That is false. If it were that easy, nobody would ever get accidental cockerels. As young chicks, their anatomies are the same. Bones are not different until a pullet hits puberty and those pelvic bones spread to allow eggs through.

I have spent a disproportionate time reading this thread and looking at all the photos over and over! Thought it might be time to say hi and post some photos of my own to see if anyone had any ideas about the gender of my three Marans chicks!

They are 3.5 weeks old now, and I am none the wiser...
My guess is #2 is a boy and #1 and #3 are girls but I think would need a few more weeks to confirm.

Thanks for having a look! Will be so pleased if at least one turns out to be a girl!

We thought number 1 looked most boy-like, but we are very new to this!

Number one:

Number two:

Number three:

Any thoughts?!
1 & 3 could be pullets...number 2 has a larger comb and thicker legs from what I can see. You need to wait a bit to be sure though.

Oh, hang on! Ignore my last post, got in a muddle- yes, number 2 (the one with the blue leg ring!) is the one we thought was top roo candidate!!!

that one is hard to tell. as the wattles are still small and pink there is a chance to be a pullet. I bet #1 and #3 are girls.

Daisy at 5 weeks. I'm still hopeful. She has a thick, dirty pink floppy comb and dirty wattles.

Daisy is an absolutely beautiful creature. Look at that copper feathering, and green eyes! If she does turn out to be David instead, maybe you could give him to a 4-H kid to show.

I'm about to get another batch of hatching eggs. I'll figure out what to do with any extra roos sooner or later. Ethically I'm not against eating them. Far better than eating little supermarket torture victims. We'll find out if I can handle it emotionally.
