black meat breeds, silkies ect....

Bluenkimchi these are a perfect size!
The range in size and weight is what I expected and actually I prefer it!

I'm really excited to have the opportunity to be raising these Hmong. ... they're totally different body shape, coloration, and feather type as well from my South American landraces. ..the Rapanui, Mapuche Huastecs and Black Quechua
Olmecs, Sweet Potato Quechua, Colloncas, Ona, Panape....etc..

..I've gotten the fibromelonistic fever!!!

No I used Black Silkie roosters most likely homozygous with deep black fm saturation over three hens (Auburn)Java x Black Quechua Olmec cross...
The BQO are known to lay turquoise colored eggs as well as other colors...
Quechua and Ona or Colloncas are what made Ameraucana and Araucanas. They're the foundations of our modern Easter Eggers too..

They produced 98% fibro ...the Java must still carry fibro genes...they come from the same place as Ayam Cemani ...Ayam Kedu, ...

The Black Quechua Olmecs are more frequently than not showing differing amounts of fibromelonism hyperpigmentation. ....
I believed somehow the fm in the Silkie woke up ( I know this isn't the scientific terminology) the fibro traits to pass them on so much. ..in the Java part as well intensified it too from the Black Quechua Olmec part...

Four fibro males from this F1 cross...out of. what many times more fibro females.....what I thought and expected was sexlinking so mostly fm females from this cross, the males were primarily expected to be non fm...so far no males resulted without fm or were light skinned males...
for now...had to see...will try more later when I've seen the eggs aren't pullet sized ..so better bigger chicks...from the
bigger eggs of more mature laying..
One female at point of lay non fm hatched with white fluff and black chipmunk stripes...
.now blue and silver...now she has red pea comb and blue slate legs.

F2 should be even much deeper saturation of fibromelonism. ...I hope or expect.

So..I tried two of these turquoise F2 eggs in the incubator right now..day12 fertile and developing nicely.

Goodluck bluenkimchi with your magnificent Hmong!
I can't hardly wait to be raising these too!

I have found my ac and bresse are heavier than even the ac x orpingtons so far. It's leading me to really want to breed the ac & bresse for a bigger heavier black meat bird? Mine are far from perfect ac, so I am probably going to use the ac I currently have as the black meat project flock until I get the better ac and svart honas in the spring and hopefully hmongs too.

My bf thinks hmong are ugly compared to ac & sh, but I think they are pretty! I have too many ac roos, I need to do a lot of caponizing this weekend. Just 1 white bresse, 1 haffie and 5 ac roos!! So I hope this makes them better meat later. We have only had 1 successful complete capon out of 8 attempts, but all are still alive. So maybe that's considered success too?

Bresse X Ac should make a nice table bird. After all Bresse are table birds and with that said, I think they should have bigger meat portions than a Orp X Ac cross.

All black is nice too, but colored is nicer

And on that note of AC X Bresse, some one is selling a trio on RBA. It currently is at $400?, but it ends today so it might be a little late for anyone on here considering betting?

DK, did you ever consider getting Hmong eggs from chickenlady? She seem to have 2-3 hens and so more eggs and chicks faster.

I did, but the egg price is as much as ac & sh. Which isn't in my budget.

I want 2 incubators for Christmas, I have narrowed it down to 3 different models but idk which would be best for my goals. I know which model I want to use for the hatching part, but want a good reliable self turning one that's easy to clean to do perpetual incubating and hatching to pheno hunt as I call it in my plant world. So I am getting my breeding stock and building out a lot of areas to house roosters and different pens.

We have begun to look for our next property if we can't buy the property next door. I may even be able to just use their yard, as it looks bad and ours was bad back in May, but I put all my time and energy into it and now have an urban homesteading thing going pretty good and the neighbors are older and happy we're fixing things back up and love we have chickens. Something was mentioned if we wanted to "use" the next door neighbors yard come spring I could do a lot nudge wink. Idk if that means to start plans to convert stuff into chicken coops (there are lots of existing structures that would work great). I guess it's something to talk with the neighbors about over the next few months. While we look for 100+ acres.

Wow, 100+acre land, that is lot to keep up, but if you have dedication, time, commitment, finance etc, anything is possible.

I wish my older neighbors were as as nice and excepting of my chickens as yours are. I to live in an urban area, but way more urban than yours.

I got a Janoel 12(China made) auto turner model from ebay not to long ago. Price was fair, I don't know how well it will do in the long run, but seems to be holding stable temps so far. I set some Hmong eggs in there on the 7th of this month, so expecting a Thanksgiving hatch day and then later around December 8th,9th?, hopefully these GFF cemani X silkie ebay eggs hatch too.

Janoel, they have other models that hold more eggs, like the 24, 48 and 96 holder too. They all seem to be auto turner, but I have no clue how well they do, since most things made in China aren't the best of quality. But, if you just wanted fairly price one that has auto turners, Janoel is a consideration to keep in mind.

Then there is the other other option to make your own from ice chest. The long plastic insulated kind can hold up to to 50+ eggs at a time. You can customize your own with fans, turners etc too.

I have thought of making those kind, but i'm not a handy man person, so I went with a cheaply made from China for now :)

Hopefully, I can help you and others that are interested in Hmong next year in spring or summer time.

That would be excellent! Idk what I'm doing yet obviously on this project. I had some losses already this winter.

I'm thinking of going with the janoel jn7-56 fir incubation and the genisis 1588 to hatch in after reading not great things about the janoel-60. My bf just said "Really do you need to be hatching 60 eggs at a time? " yes, I'm "pheno hunting" was my explanation to him. Let's hope santa feels generous when it comes to my ocd and chicken math has gotten a serious grip on our lives.

My bf is imagining us more over run with chickens and ducks lol. And I want to add qusil in the spring too along with bees. Yes, I've lost it a bit, but this winter has put things into more perspective for me on my limitations.

If I had a plucker, culling would have gone much faster I think.

I'm researching different brooder heater and nipple watering options for my first planned spring hatchings.

Maybe you would want to trade hatching eggs, for possibly the white bresse x cemani or cemani x bresse?

A lot of interest from our Asian friends about the black meat chickens too. So the bf does see the wisdom in getting the incubators and other brooder type stuff. Plus friends want me to supply them with chicks in the spring of the bresse and egg layers and quail and ducks.

Now I'm trying to convince my bf to let me cover our backyard in bird block netting. Lol. Anything to protect my feather babies.

Takes trail and error, but it will eventually work out along the way

Sure wouldn't mind trading for the bresse X cemani or the other one either. But just note I only have a single pair and the hen laid a clutch in late October, but she kept on breaking them. So I remove what was left of 5 intact eggs and incubated them. After 7 days, candle them and all 5 were fertile and develop, but a week later 2 have died early. 3 was left and all of them hatched on this past Thanksgiving day. Sadly a day later, 2 of them died of unknown cause and only 1 is left.

Janoel, they aren't the best in the larger form, but the small 12 auto turner works fine and keeps steady through out incubation period.

Yep, Asian believed the black meat have medicinal properties and like to make a medicinal soup out of it. But the black meat is just over all healthier, with lower fat content, higher amino acid, and other good stuff for health reasons. Though you would have to consider the cross your going to use as well, since some breeds tend to be more fatty than others. Oriental game fowl are good cross since they are tall, lean and muscular build with good amount of meat on them. But they lack production, so maybe a bresse X Oriental gf x cemani would work for meat and egg production?
