black meat breeds, silkies ect....

I see, they can vary in feather plumage.

Just curious, are your birchen cemani/kedu the same price as your regular black cemani/kedu?

I would just leave any land race pretty much as they are, but it's really up to the breeder, how they like their line of birds to be.

I was looking on rare breed auctions.com and thought I might be interested in betting on GFF auction of Svart Honas young 2 month old pairs, but the bidding just keep jumping up every time, I re look at the listing. I guess in time, the price will drop off like everything else(including the Cemani from all the different breeders out there)/.

BTW, have your Svart honas been laying and hatching any chicks yet?
I consider the birchen to be a project and have only sold them once. But if you are interested, send me a PM.

Svart Hona are still quite rare. There are only two lines in the country. It's going to take time for flocks to be built out. You can save money by buying eggs or buying straight-run chicks. But with older pairs, you will always pay more since the breeder usually culls and only sells the best quality as breeding pairs.

Yes, my oldest Svarts are the original imports of the breed into the U.S. so they have been laying for years. However, the unrelated quad that I have been selling eggs from is no longer laying eggs. One hen went broody and the rest just stopped laying because of the broody. I am trying to break her of the broodiness. But with Fall coming, that may be it for the year from that quad. I have about thirty or so that I am growing out for the next breeding season.

Ok, will PM you about the birchen

Guess, straight runs or eggs will be the way to go, if I want some now. But, i'm in no rush, just let it ride out, even if it takes years.

30, nice, you'll get your selection of future breeding pairs from that batch of chicks.

@ bluekimchi I emailed the cl ad, the worst that they can do is say no right?

@ DCchicken will you have any other fm chicks hatched at about the same time to ship with the svart honas? I still want a dozen or so white bresse from your sisters flock also. I'm still searching for french bcm chicks too.

I will have some Ayam Cemani from my landrace pen hatching around that time. They could be shipped together because they are easy to identify. Most of the landrace Ayam Cemani have white feathers on the wing tips that fall off when they molt. So you would need to tag them with zip ties or bands before they feather out to keep them separate.

I will let me sister know.

Ok. I think I will wait until spring to add ayam cemani from you to my flock, but I might get 2 more sh from you if you have them to my order :) it seems like 5 is a good # right lol.

That leaves 12 bresse to get now, I can find 6 sorta local, but not and no shipping, and since I have so many baby chicks I can't take off for a day long trip to get 6 chicks lol.

Here are my two Hmong pullets, the black one has a few small feather on both her legs(can't see in the pic, but she does have like 2-4 very small ones on each leg) and then the brown black pullet that looks more Oriental in shape, but both have single combs.

BTW, they both are around 5-6 months of age and not laying yet. Maybe not even until next spring, since they are more of a seasonal layer, but when they do lay, they do tend to lay up to 25+ eggs, before setting on any of them. Means, lots of babies and very good and broody mothers

and just to show you guys, here is my friends flock of Hmongs from Back in Fresno, CA, that comes in many colors and shapes. The older roo may have kinda bright red combs/wattles, but Fm all over the body. Btw, he is selling young pairs for $30, just in case anyone is located in or close enough that might want to pick up some

Oh almost forgot my two pullets

Very nice looking!! What are hmongs?

Since I'm half korean I am very interested in the Korean black fm chickens. I spoke with my thai friends last night and they want my chicken meat and eggs lol.

To top everything off, I dropped my Samsung Galaxy s5 too many times since may and the screen started cracking. Yay :(

Hmongs are just a land race of Mountain chicken, that are raised by the Hmong tribe of people from SE Asia. Don't know their true origins, but was told they are descendants of the Schezuan Mountain silkie chickens(not actual silkie at all) that was brought by the original Hmong/Miao of Southern China, when they Migrated further south into SE Asia after prosecutions by the Han Chinese.
