Black oil Sunflower Seeds, In the Shell or out? How much and how often

I agree with you 150%. The little ones don't have the mouth size to eat them or the tuff beaks like the older chickens do. And it may get stuck in their throat. "And then there was none."

I don't understand why they would like BOSS. The shell has no flavor and they don't shell it before they eat it. What would make them want to eat them? Mine won't eat them.

I've seen one of my girls eat small feathers. Now how tasty can that be? Wouldn't that tickle her throat?

Really, Chickens don't have many taste buds. They eat god awful stuff.
A little shell won't hurt them. I wouldn't think.

Mine love sunflower seeds as a treat. That being said, I can get a handful of pellets and throw those into the run and they inhale those just as fast. I really think the chickens love the attention you give them.

Does a run that the bottom of is sandy loam soil count as free ranging as far as not needing grit? I see them pecking and picking up stuff all the time.
