OK, you hear lot's of old farmer's tails when you start to raise chickens, but has anyone heard this one? Some one told me to put Black Pepper in the feed to make them lay more eggs. This person came from an old Italian family that had done this for generations. Since the quantity of eggs is a biological thing, this sounds silly, but I thought I had better run it by you all before I "POO POO!" it. Thanks.

Hot peppers are supposed to work too---something about it raising their body temp and speeding up the metabolism.

I dunno if it works, but I am all for flavoring the chicken from the inside.

But if you're gonna add pepper, dont' forget the garlic and butter. Season AND tenderize. I'm for efficiency.

Well, I know that while reading the Little House in the Prairie books, I came across a reference to Ma giving the hens their mash well-peppered.
