Blooie's Blankie Fort

It's a LONG flight, but a beautiful country!!!
It'd be so worth it!!!

I've got a big backyard and a tent, you're welcome to stay.... (You might be able to kip inside, as long as you don't mind sharing with my cocky LOL)

Seems there was another contest, and I played along. I didn't win 1st prize......I won second. Guess what second prize was? Yep, hatching eggs. 6 Australorp eggs. Uh oh. So I talked to the person who donated the prizes, and learned that there were a few fertility issues with the BAs so I'd probably get 4 of those and a couple of other breeds. Well, okay, since I lost 18 eggs out of the first batches maybe I can handle 6 more. These will be in lockdown in the big incubator before the new ones get here, right?

Got a PM last night. The new eggs have been shipped......11 of them. Oh, dear! I think I need a bigger blankie.

The remaining 8 look good - the 9th one that I was questioning is looking pretty duddy. (Hey, it's word now!!)

Hve you considered playing the lotto? Would you like to pick some numbers for me?

I dunno, Amy! Seems like it! I won 3 Svart Hona eggs that I gifted to someone right after I received the first batch. If I was desperately trying to win eggs, I'd have a cabinet full of chicken salt and pepper shakers by now!

Hey Blooie - you are at abut 4,000 feet in elevation, right? Do you know what elevation the eggs were laid at?

Eggs that travel far enough uphill can have lower hatch rates. (On top of shipping damage).

I had no idea that elevation made that much difference. A lot of times, if I personally get eggs that have detached air cells, I won't turn them for the first 7-9 days. They tend to do better. Then I will hatch them sitting up in egg cartons.

Blooie, I'm so sorry the Post Office was so rough on your boxes!
