Okay question-when deciding which blue chicks to keep, what does one look for and does one select darker blue over lighter blue? At what age does one start picking out who to keep? Ours oldest group of chicks are 6 weeks now, we seem to have 8 cockerals and 3 pullets, although we are watching one chick and hoping that it is a pullet instead of a cockeral.
I would be very interested to learn that too. I am kinda sad, my beautiful roo is gonna lose all the points on his comb.
Oh well, he can still make pretty babies. My Andy's have been laying well for about a week now. Put eggs in the bator last week. Hoping for a good hatch, and some splash roos! I have some beautiful black hens to put him with.
Are Andalusians slower to feather out tail feather wise then other breeds?
I have a splash chick that seems to have no tail when compared to other chicks of the same age.
No, they are a pretty fast feathering breed(at least in my experience). It may be a female or the others may have pulled out it's tail feathers. Some(in any breed) are just slower. He/she should catch up later.
I belive its a female.
She is in with 2 other chicks (both banties) and I havent seen any signs of pulled feathers.
I need to post an updated pic. She is fully feathered now but still no tail feathers.
