Blue/Brown Eggs, Easter/Christmas Eggs - Getting my craft on!!

Quote:
Yes they are all rub ons. My mother does wonderful free hand but not me lol. I got those from Hobby Lobby and they are my favorites. They have a tendency of moving and pulling apart when I am putting them on. It makes small cracks in the design but I have been told by lots of family that it gives it an antique look. I kind of like it too.

I just found Charlie Brown or Peanut rub ons on Ebay!!! I love them and can't wait till they get here! I am keeping them for myself and putting them on my christmas tree.

I've used only the spray on sealant, with good success. The key is to use several light coats instead of one heavy one. I also saw those tins and bought a couple. They have some small, wooden boxes in the wood craft section, for $1.99, If you go back and use the coupon they give you at check out, you can get one for half that. I have stained and polyurathaned mine, for a nicer container. This craft has just ballooned into other crafts.

Mary of Exeter, I didn't use any glitter. On some of my eggs, I lightly sprayed them with a very light coat of gold spray paint before using the rub-ons. The hummingbird rub-on has glitter already in it, one of the reasons I like it so much! I am very much a small girl inside, in that I am still very attracted to bright, shiny objects!

I have thought of the tattoos but not tried it. I have also wondered if some paper stickers would work. Miss Prissy, the one that inspired so many of us that are doing this, said they didn't work cuz of the plastic they were made of but some stickers are still made of paper and I was wondering if anyone had tried them. They are way cheaper than rub ons and 10 times or more the selection than rub ons.

i doubt the stickers would take the curve of the egg well either... unles they are thin stickers, or small stickers... but then you have the border around stickers to contend with... some deigns it would work well with, others not wso much... worht a shot though... i'd try it on a white egg before i tried it on a pretty colored egg... unless you have colors coming out your ears.. lol..

Well, I've done my first 3 eggs and they look beautiful! However, I warned you all that I have no craft experience/ability, so here we go with the stupid questions...hope someone can help me!

#1 - What do you attach the bead caps with? Glue? If so, what kind?

#2 - I sprayed one of the eggs with the spray sealant I bought, but it made some of the edges of the rub ons curl up. Anything I can do to stop that from happening?

#3 - My back hurts from bending over blowing out the eggs and putting on the rub ons....and I've only done 3! How do you people do so many of these?!

I have not attached any bead caps to my eggs yet but I would think any glue that dried clear and only use a really small amount.
I bought the sealant Mod Podge that you paint on and really hope it does not make my rub ons curl or I am done lol since I can't draw. I have heard of others having success with Mod Podge. Have you gone back to the first few pages on this thread? There is alot of great advice and tips.
I use a really big syringe that I got from our local farm\\feed store with a real long needle and it works great. Cuts the blowing time down by at least half. I just ordered a different kind of egg blower off a site here on the net and hope it makes things go even faster. Will let you know.

oh hunny heres a quick way to do them--get a syringe--I never even tried to "blow" them out because I knew I would never finish it!! I happen to have 1 ounce needle-less syringes ( you can get them t animal stores for medications) I poke a small hole on top with a sharp pearing knife and then a large whole( just big enough to fit the syringe top) and aspirate ( pull plunger to suction) and wala it all comes right out-it will be a little harder when teh yolk is coming through but be patient it works very fast and easy--I Use Mod podge GLOSSY-none of my rub ons have ever curled with it and it gives a sealant coat while putting that beautiful shine on-the bead caps we hot glue on-but that is something I would not give a kid to do as I tried-the hot glue strings were everywhere-and I was afraid of her getting burned-just a little dot then the bead cap! I am waiting on my final stap-the string to hang them from the trees! I guess Ill hunt some down at michael's or something-

Ok, I guess I should have been more clear...I did use a syringe to "blow" out the eggs. LOL. I just used a 3 cc one and it took forever...I will get a much larger one tonight when I got o work and that should make that part go by faster. I've read the whole thread and I bought the spray sealant b/c I don't have the patience to paint something on, plus someone said they had used it and it worked ok. I think maybe I used too think of a coat the first time and just need to spray from further away. Thanks for all your help!
