Do you mind me asking what happened with your little girl? I saw the "we will miss you" item on your instagram. I really enjoyed seeing the photos!

I assume this was for me.
Quincy must have picked up a map pin somewhere. She used to come with me to friends houses etc.
She had been unwell on and off for a couple months and I took her to 3 different vets before the last one decided to x-ray her.
Surgery was our only long term option, but it was too late really. Her insides were too messed up and she died during surgery.
My happy home is just not that anymore. We have been utterly devastated by this loss.
I don't wish this sort of misfortune on anyone.

I am very sorry to hear. Toffee's Mum passed away last autumn. I have his father inside with him now, because Daddy Bobwhite has no mate now and is no longer accepted that well within the covey. I have a huge cage setup inside, for Toffee, Tiffer, and Tieri (my female Gambel). They all do very well together.
I hope you have the joy of raising more Quail. It's very hard to lose one, because they are such sweet birds and imprint deeply upon you. When Toffee's Mum passed away, she was over 4 years old, and it was due to older age obviously. I took her loss hard, because she was a very affectionate little bird. You will always miss little Quincy, but she will be very much alive within the next lucky quail that you are blessed to raise.

It's a shame quail are so fragile and have such short lifespans.... All we can do about it is take out the incubator and start over again... I hope to get a great pet-quail like your guys soon

The longest lifespan of any of mine, so far, is going on 5 (Toffee's Daddy), and he's still very healthy (aside from the injury to his leg.... walks with a little limp). I have a female Gambel that is almost 7 and still quite active. I wish you ALL the Best!

The average live expectancy for most captive quail, including Coturnix is 2 to 5 years of age.

Im sure there is one decrepit little roo in your care, that has a long white beard much like mine

.... You'll likely need 30% gamebird starter, metamucil and quailagra when breeding season rolls around....

No Ma'am.... Their peak laying is about 9 months. But I know of many that are still getting a egg every other day from 3 year old hens..... Forcing them to lay with lights will shorten life span some, and make the production of eggs go down hill faster..... There is only a finite amount of eggs one hen will lay and when she is done, she's done.... Long story short, id figure closer to three year life span on average unless you were after only top production. If thats the case switch out your hens every nine months or so....

Hmmm... So for a year and a half I have had bad sources...
I let my quail be in the winter, and spoil them all year long. I got a new camera in the quail pen and currently my hens are fighting over the nest box!(is this strange???)
