Thank you for the information about the auction; I ended up wining the auction. Hopefully the seller will ship the eggs promptly so we can set them in the incubator this Friday or Saturday. Almost 24 hours I still have not received any response to the email I sent them. This will be our first group of GOLD-SPANGLED-APPENZELLER-SPITZHAUBEN chickens I have been looking for some time for this breed. Anyone know what is the optimal temperature & humidity I should setting incubator for these eggs? Any help or information is greatly appreciated.

JP I am sorry about the misleading post which they are NOT Spitzhaubens but Brabanters. But I must admit those pictures of those birds are much better than the ones I've seen in Golden Spangled Brabanters. I am sure most of us would be pleased to have some of his stock.

I have received a reply from the Ebay seller and he informed me that I was the second person to mention that out to him but that is what he was sold as Golden Spangled Spitzhaubens, not Brabanters.

What you can do is to cross the Gold Brabanters over to the Silver Spangled Spitzhaubens and cull heavily or sell as project birds that does not meet the Spitzhauben variety.

Either way, I am impressed with the seller's birds!

Hello, folks. I set 8 Spitzhauben eggs and had two hatch. I have a question, though. The two chicks look very different, so I'm wondering what you all think of them.
Here is the first one - this one hatched first, and is unfortunately obsessed with pecking the other chicks - eyes, beaks, feathers.... Anyway, I think it looks correct:

Here is the second one that hatched, which does not have the same colored legs, no weird nose-thing, and almost no black:

Yes, the first is more typical of a Spitz chick. The second one does not have a lot of the Spitz characteristics, especially the leg color. However, no chick is going to be the same as another and some miss out on some of the good genes. Give it a while and see what developes.

BTW, when are you going to finish your Christmas candy cane ?

Mine are ready to go outside. All we're waiting for is the coop and run to arrive next week.

Once their in the run, I'll need to take pictures, so you experts can help me figure out which pullets to keep. I only have the one cockerel to work with.

My spitz are almost a month old.

Well no worries, I was also looking for Brabanter eggs or chicks so this will be fine. However if someone here in this form has a good source for Gold or Silver Spangled Spitzhaubens then please let me know where I can get some. Yesterday we received eggs from Ebay seller all 15 made the shipping journey without any breakage.

Seller finally replied to my email questions. ”Could you possibly provide more information about the genetic lineage of your flock of Gold Spangled Appenzeller Spithauben chickens? Please send pictures of Rooster and Hen that produced eggs. Please provide optimal temperature and humidity setting for this breed.” Seller reply: “The pictures you see are the actual birds the eggs are coming from. I've been told that their eggs are a little more porous than others, which requires just a little higher humidity level. Other than this same temp. as other chicken eggs. Hope this helps eggs are on their way.”

Regardless what breed they are we are still rather excited to have found one of the two breeds we were seeking to find. As the hatching starts to proceed I will keep everyone informed with pictures as what they may be. I’m confident someone here will be capable to Identify the little chicks. This will be my second time using my still air LG; the first hatching this past Easter did not go so well. Hopefully this run turns out better after all this will be my Fathers Day hatching.

Which brings me to a technical question, does anyone have any experience with using ACU-RITE Model # 000592W Thermometer / Hygrometer? The remote Thermometer / Hygrometer for outdoor readings does not seem to provide exactly same temperature and humidity reading as base unit even with them in the same space on same surface at approximately 2 feet apart. Only 1 degree lower in temp and 4 to 5% difference in humidity. Has anyone else experienced this same issue? Finally the outdoor remote sensor seems to take much longer to provide readings.
