Crystal's crest is beautiful! Hope she keeps it that way!

As for the spangling, I think she needs more spangles on each feather but she is very very young so I would wait until her adult plumage come out and go from there. You certainly dont want too big of a spangled anyway.

Crooked toes, hopefully it is not genetic...it could be due to the incubation. Did you raise her from hatching eggs OR did you get her from a hatchery?

Allenwranch, all you can do is to keep trying! Could it be the fact that it may be due to your incubation that caused this roo to have crooked toes?

I got her from a friend who got her from a hatchery...lol I just have the two pullets right now, but am trying to decide on what breed I want to propagate and then get a roo and go from there! I haven't decided between these guys, Russian Orloffs, Cubalayas.... there was one other, I ferget right now...lol

It probably was incubation, but I can't take a chance on a primary roo.

However, I have two Spitz hens with horrible, horrible crooked toes. Might hatch one or two of their eggs to see what happens.

I'll have to watch for hatching eggs for sale, I would like another set of Brabanters and some Spitzhaubens as well.

How would you rate their egg production Good, Fair, or Excellent
& Egg size med, Small Or large ???

I have been looking intp the SPitz & Bra..
For a while but Wanted your opinions ???

In my opinion, they are fabulous white egg layers, medium to large, depending on the hen herself. Certainly NOT broody so far!

Are they fast growers or do they take a while to mature ?

Both my Spitz and Brabanters matured fairly fast. My 10 week old Brabanters are about the same size as the adults, just not filled out as much.

Can tell the difference in gender on the Spitz around 5-6 weeks.

From my first Ideal culling I kept 6 birds, then hatched one more. They all look pretty good except for their tails and the rooster. He obviously has some cream in him, because I got some white wing and tail feathers after he molted this year. His crest looks OK, but it started out smallish. His comb has a nice "V", but it also has sprigs.

The 16 Brabanter babies I have now are a combination of 6 of my chicks and 12 from Ideal. I will probably keep less than half. They are a varied mix of good traits and bad. There are several with small crests, but they may grow more. I also have a couple with no beards, but good crests.

If you or anyone else is interested in any of my culls, let me know.

I will probably start selling Brabanter chicks and/or eggs next Spring.

I don't sell any Spitz chicks or eggs at the moment, because I am still trying to build my flock back up. I have lots of older hens and only one roo at the moment so the fertility is not the best. The chicks look promising but only time will tell.

I have also not sold any Spitz in the past few years because I discovered they are Lymphoid Leukosis Virus carriers. However, because of the small gene pool, it is likely all Spitz in the US are carriers now. I might start selling them next spring, but it depends on how they develop.
